Why is it so hard to grasp the difference between lean and malnourished?!?!

So here is my question, why is it that whenever someone is walking with a dog that is an apbt, apbt mix, or an apbt lookalike that is lean, everyone immediately assumes that he/she is a dogfighter and abuses their animals? Honestly, how hard is that to understand? A dog that is underweight will have their hip bones showing and a dog that is seriously underweight will have their spine showing. If the dog is showing the first 2 to 3 ribs, but the dog's stifles are muscular and the back is extremely defined, it means the dog is in shape and built. Why do the general public immediately jump on someone for keeping their dog lean as to prolong their lives as animal abuses and even as dogfighters? Is it just me, or are people getting dumber and dumber? I think the human race as a whole would benefit a lot by culling these retards and, in my humble opinion, the HSUS is a good place to start.

if you think its bad walking around with an in shape bull dog you should try taking out an in shape lurcher or sighthound.

It's real simple, the general public has this image in their heads

and when they see this type, they think it's unhealthy, meanwhile that 120lb hippo is the unhealthy one waiting to have a heart attack any day now.

I hear my dog is to lean all the time but once they see what my dog can do. Most people change the tune is stupid. And then they ask me to help get there dog in shape. Once i had this chick that was a vet tech i mean WAS a vet tech fight with me for over in hour that my dog was to skinny she finally shut up when her friend came up a said she was wrong and he was a vet. He said my dog looked great and he was very well behaved. If most people took care and worked with there apbt like i do they wouldnt have such a bad name. and he said that the the big blue hippo that she was saying r good lookin dogs r garbage compared to a well bread apbt. To sum up the story that vet is now my vet.

Thats funny you say that, I went through the same thing at my vet while I was there some lady from a rescue group proceeded to tell me my dog looked really under weight. I tried to explain to her but no good. Finally my vet said the same thing yours did, your dog looks good keep it up it is refreshing to see someone who takes care of there dog... I smiled and walked out.

The US has lost interest in the real working breeds. In this country the only dogs that are still being bred for working purposes, are hunting dogs. Dogs in this country started being bred for elegance in the 70's and 80's. Very few breeds can actually do the job they were originally created for, so society has grown unaccustomed to what a working dog should look like. Society feels that dogs should be only household companions without anything to do besides eat, shit and become a extra bill. JMO

I have an APBT(2 yrs old), an American Bulldog (1 year and 11 months old) and a Basset Hound pup (12 weeks old). All of them would literally eat themselves to death if I let them. I feed measured amounts once in the morning and once at night to prevent them from being overweight. You should hear the comments I get when out walking. Apparently, I am cruel for making sure my dogs are at a healthy weight and won't be having back and hip problems at minimum.

Purepit, a Basset is a hunting dog and people still think it should be some fat and lazy creature. Its truly sad.

i find the younger crowd thinks my dogs are in good shape (which suprises me cause i would think they would be into bulky bullies) and the older crowd thinks my dogs need to gain weight. my aunt has this fat ass boxer and when she sees my dogs she thinks they are to thin, but her dog looks like a walking barrel with stick legs. i keep my dogs lean year around.. as long as a dog is thin and showing nice muscle definition , then aint nothing to worry about.... alot of the genral public have overweight dogs just like themselves , so when they see our dogs its a big change

The public the public the public......is just another pet peeve of mine for reasons like this surrounding our breed. What do they understand about our breed? grab five random people off the street and quiz them on some of the basic facts and they will fail like a 2 year old. The media has created it's own version of the pit bull so now we have to be nice fresh teachers with patience if we want to have faith towards guidance for those who seek it. Other then that you can very well spin yourself crazy trying to knock sense into someone who either doesn't care to hear the truth or is just to afraid of knowing something different from what they were originally fed.

In today society I find it not worth it to keep beating on someone who is jut not motivated to learn from what you know. You have to be open to the bs they have to say just as much as they have to be willing to learn something else instead of the bs they were fed. Not saying that it doesn't get annoying or ridiculous but sadly not everyone is willing to board the same boat more then enough were left behind (the general public) that's all I am trying to wash up the shore here.

As soon as I here someone fixated on the word BIG in regards towards dogs I am shaking my head and rolling my eyes in my mind but follow through accordingly depending on the individual. It can vary on who is content to learn what I may have to say if they continue to sound like a lost cause I will tell them that in the right way to just end it from turning me insane.

I think the other side of the coin is also common, people that think their skinny dog is lean when it isn`t.

1% of the general public is in shape..i mean real good shape. 6-7% body fat
with well developed muscle bodies. it's a freak show to people that have never seen
it in person....just like a well fed (well fed in todays society means fat) and trained dog...in the show circuit the dogs must show the spine and last 4 ribs and be free of fat. greyhounds are more accepted as the norm due to the medias representation of a true working/racing dogs image.
any real dog enthusiast knows that fat and water between the skin acts as a catullus*(sp) to keep heat in, and not dissipate it as efficiently as is needed,...IE:keeping said dog from over heating prematurely. to keep the dog healthy it must be free of fat...anythig other than that is in my opinion cruel.
