dew claws

ive been reading and seeing that dogmen will cull or give away dogs with dew claws... ive never paid it any attention or heard anything about that particular subject before (i am new to the dogs!) im just trying to figure out whats the problem with the dew claw? or more importantly what does it signify when a dog has a pup with a dew claw if it doesnt have them

 

You mean rear dewclaws?

Because all dogs have front ones.

I've only seen 2 APBTs with rear dewclaws, a father & son. But I never heard of dogs with rear dews being culled for it before. But there is a first time for everything.

well i asked around some more and someone told me that someone else *laughing* told them that something else (other than an apbt) may have been in the line somewhere... they werent sure either but thats what they heard so thats how they rolled *laughing*

 

I haven't seen em myself,but the adba prefers them (rear dewclaws) to be removed for conformation. But i haven't seen any rear dewclaws on my dogs

 

thanks 1916... that goes back to what the person i asked said... that the older dogmen say that if rear dewclaws pop up in pups that you breed to someone else then somewhere down the line its something other than a bulldog

Our house dog has rear dew claws and she is 100% Bulldog. Rare, I guess but I have seen it before.

 

ohok... thats why i asked... just to get different answers.... so it just depends on the dog huh...maybe like a 6th finger or toe in humans
