Hunting hogs is legal, btu sadly, catching hogs in a pen is illegal. They got a guy going to trial in SC over that.

The swamps of Florida are full of hogs. You need to get with someone who don't mind showing you the ropes. This is not just as easy as asking a question and getting an answer. Some dogs without the proper encouragement may never hunt. Training cannot be taught in a forum such as this one. I have 2 very good Allen dogs whos bloodline came from Florida originally. You need a mentor. Good luck with your pursuit. Some of the D**k heads on this forum need to never post a reply. They are purely ignorant.

use the dogs natural talents, if the dog doesn't seem to want to go after the hog, then i wouldn't try to use that dog. use one that has that drive and just let it be natural.

who has the right to tell me what breed of canine I can own. no one. Ban Guns Not Dogs!

    I got cha back YoYoYo.
NuTTDoGG[/QUOTE]While I agree with 99% of what ya said, this statement of "ban guns, not dogs" What the hell? No damn politician has the right to circumvent any part of our beloved Constitution, especially not the 2nd Amendment. Hell that may just be the single most important thing in the Constitution, for once we are disarmed there is absolutely nothing stopping our government from dropping it's facade of Freedom and just out and out controlling us. This country wasn't founded on or built on weakness and over-regulation, but it sure will be destroyed by it.

I don't think you can train a dog to hunt, if it is a hunter it will do it on it's own. Prey drive and ability is genetic, you should know right away if it is a hunter or not. I would'nt put it out there on something big like a hog until it is a proven hunter of a smaller game. You need to see its ability, talent, drive, ect. before you risk hunting a dangerous animal.

I can sure tell BluePitt knows nothing about hunting. No disrespect intended. :)

Gosh, people crack me up!!! Hunting isn't like fighting, I have dogs that when placed in a pen to see how they will react with a hog for the first time run to the gate as if to say "get me outa here" lol. The same dog when taken to the field will act entirely different during a catch when he sees his yard mates on a hog for the first time. Most adult dogs will always start if they have a chance to see it first hand. I do have dogs that the very first time I put them in the pen just took hold as if they done it all their lives, but to say you can't train a dog to hunt is false.
