My cousin's dog

My cousin called me last night to tell me his Pit Hunter had to be put to sleep. Guess why... Because the neighbors three Australian Shepherd got out of their yard and attacked him. Hunter was never much of a fighter, he used to run from my grandma's chihuahua. I just can't believe that it happened. The dogs ripped out the poor boys left eye and tore into his stomach. THese dogs are unaltered and the female was more than likely in heat, they have at least one litter a year. (Hunter was neutered.) He was out on his chain and my cousin was gone at work. His yard is fenced in but I guess the dogs jump well because they got in there. He came home and found his dog bleeding at the end of his chain barely breathing. The neighbors dogs were back in their yard covered in blood. I gave Hunter to my cuz when he was only 7 weeks old as a present because he really liked Halo. Hunter was only 5 years old. I guess the neighbors are saying that their Shepherds have to go to the vet to get stitches. My cousin is taking them to court, he wants to see if he can get them marked as viscous. I told him that he should call the news but he won't go that far. This isn't the first time these dogs have attacked another dog. They almost tore the leg off a stray Dane mix that my cousin's wife had to take to the Shelter. Well he took pictures and he is sueing them for emotional distress, for finding his dog like that and the vet costs because they did try and save him, before my cousin said that it was just prolonging his suffering. My cousin is afraid for his kids and is going to put a 6 foot privacy fence because of this.

I am so sorry for your Cousin and his dog. I would hire an attorney to see what your cousins rights are in your town, in mine you can sue for the value of the dog only. But also the attacking dogs would be declared viscous dogs, the owner would face an off leash violation. If the dogs attacked any person or animal a second time because they are tagged as viscous dogs, they have to be put down. I know each state and town have different ordinances, some are rigid about enforcing some are not, they are really rigid where I live. I would also seek to put this in the press, to show any dog can be a viscous dog, not just a Pit Bull. Good luck to you and your family..........

I'm sorry for your cousins loss, he should most definately file a police report and bring in the media.

Bringing in a ringer or two might also halt the neighbors dog problem....;)

How sad. The saddest is that I'm sure SOMEHOW it will get turned onto the Pit Bull and it will be his fault even though he was chained inside a fence in his own yard. I'm sorry for your cousin that he had to come home to that . May I tell your story to my BSL list? and also where in Ohio are you ? I am also in Ohio.

Here is an update for you all-

Since it has been almost a week, I asked my cousin's wife if he wanted another dog. She said it might brighten him up. So I am on the lookout for one close to here for him. He does not want the media involved, for some odd reason. The owner tried to tell the humane society that it wasn't their dogs. HA HA they had blood all over them and are known to jump fences. My cousin filed a junction for a trial that is set sometime next month....

    I live in Dayton, Ohio.

The owner voluntarily put both the male Ausies to sleep but he is keeping the female. He claims she didn't have blood on her so she wasn't involved. I think it is because she is more than likely pregnant and he can just replace his males.
