from 80 to 63? thats nearly a 25% drop. im willing to bet the dog is not healthy on either side of that spectrum

if you were to increase his food i would split his feeding to twice a day, increase it all into one meal he might not absorb the extra, give him extra fluids also, he will expel this daily, when he is the way you like him, cut back the evening feed but include the difference back into his first feed, important to do this to have the dog empty and his true weight for the last week of show. when a dog gives you problems like this its very important that its 100% quality food you increase it by, dont hold back on the $$$ at this time, two other things i would say: you might be over working your dog , to give you any more advise i would have to be watching you work and feed your dog, hope this helps when you combine it with the other posts made.

  4. Not an entirely true statement - if you are feeding good quality food (one example is EVO) instead of garbage you would be feeding between 2 and 3 cups daily for a dog of that weight - but I do agree with your statement that he probably isn't feeding enough food by feeding 3 cups of BilJac.

EDIT: Sorry MAC11 - I didn't mean to hound on you about this, I just read through the rest of the thread and realized someone else brought this up already - if I had seen that before posting I would not have posted this - please don't think I am dumping on you!

Patchwork, when the hips where showing , was the overall condition of the animal good, ?…or had you taken too much off him overall.? Are you asking for tips on weight management or tips on conditioning a weak area?……….. I noticed your conditioning didn’t mention any spring pole work any reason why?.....

don't feed a dog 2 times a day . they will never be empty if you do .

He is not interested in the spring pole as much and I have nosey neighbors.

Mostly, the reason I put this up was to see if anyone else has had the same issues and if they had tips on it. Also. I know that a few dogs of this bloodline has the same issue with the hips showing.

i would think you are not feeding enough if you work him and he gets too thin...add more proteins/fats to his diet...never fed that type of food but i have never seen a dog too thin on anything unless he was either sick or not fed enough....i also never get into 'amounts' when dogs are concerned...i can't say 3 cups of this or 2lbs of that....every dog is different....i would say keep working him the way you think best and just add food....if it is a health issue get a blood workup at the vet....US1

  13. really?? i guess you need to tell me how you condition him. i wanna get my pigglet back down to 63llbs...

Imo most of these post are great advise for you there is one thing no one has told you.A few maybe most has said to add a higher protein and fat content feed, just onething for you to remember,as your dogs spine an hip bones are showing you need to add a higher protein feed as proteins build flesh fats give energy.good luck with your dog.
