Bud you are getting into a heavy eugenics debate here, but to provide you with an example of the top of my head I will just make the human example of Jeremy Shockey because I am a close friend of an uncle that I consider family. Shockey has the bowlegged trait as do a few of his family members, yet he excelled as a tight end and helped the Saints win a superbowl. The example goes to show that despite nonconfirmation he was able to excell in his position moreso than many other perfectly conformed specimens in his position. So there are always exceptions to what you consider a rule, especially with gamedogs, and in the past if dogmen adhered to your rule many dogs would have been culled based on simple visual cosiderations of not conforming to a standard structure, but thankfully and for the sake of the bulldog's defining attribute, that attribute being gameness, dogmen had more forsight than just going by structural confirmation in how they bred and culled their dogs. If it werent for them we would right now be discussing the conformational perfection of dogs that are not gamedogs.

There are exceptions...like I said. I guess it comes down to what you think a APBT should be as a individual preference. I just dont think game is the only trait to breed for. These dogs possess so much ability and attributes in general....why not let them possess it all and flourish. The total package so to speak. Breeding for one certain trait alone seems limiting to me. But to each their own. If your happy with them that's all that matters in the long run right?

And every Breeder should breed for the total package! This is Hi-Tek kennels and I approve this message!!!!!

In an ideal world "the total package" would be the norm but in the real world of gamedogs gameness is about the most elusive trait that exists, as well as the defining trait of the breed. If breeding primarily for gameness seems limiting to you perhaps you should leave breeding to those who have a more complete understanding of what constitutes a "gamedog."

True...gameness is the hardest trait. But not elusive. OK...Deformed dog has weak muscles in that particular area...other muscles over compensate and have to work extra hard. What feeds muscles? Oxygen! When I muscle has to work harder...it needs more what? Oxygen! When that muscles gets starved for oxygen because its depleted what's there...what happens? Its says screw it and starts shutting down. And all muscles in dogs or any other thing that breaths air has a breaking point and shuts down eventually. So when it finally shuts down...you can have all the game in the world but when his four legs refuse to let him make a scratch...is game the only trait you need at that point?

This is my last contribution to this discussion. To be more clear and to do away with any beating around the bush with this issue, gameness is the most elusive trait of any desirable trait wanted in a gamedog, simply because it is not readily noticable by any simple or cursory visual inspection. The hardest trait and the most elusive trait are comparable qualifications so at this point you are just arguing for the sake of arguing, with no clear intent at coming to a compromise with any point of view but your own.

And no dulce...I appreciate your responses being civilized and I see your point as I was just making mine. I was not arguing by any means. Just a simple debate between two adults that share the same common interest. Thanks!
