lets hear what kinda hardware ur using to keep those yard accident down?

i first cut the chain in half to put a bonified swivel in the middle of the chain i use chain links to re connect the chain, a friend of mine uses s-hook .also i put the collar thru a o-ring and i use a lap link to connect to the collar im getting away from the lap links and going with s-hooks to connet the chain to the collar oh and i put the swivel in the middle of the chain to take some of the pressurer off a connenct device.

  2. This setup is right, I don't know about the swivel in the middle but to each his own. The only advice anyone should take on chain setups. The less links you have, the less chances you have of breaking one. I have never lost a dog on a chain spot from this advice.

I stop using Lap-Links an started using Cold-Shuts an I never trusted them S-Hook.

dont EVER use s-hooks, and lap links wear down wayyy to quick. and as far as the swivel in the middle just think of it like every extra link is going to make more things you have to constantly check and more chances for something to break, but as wdir said; to each his own.

I personally wrap the chain around the axle and cold shut it back to itself (bury the axle), then the dog end goes chain,cold-shut,swivel,cold-shut, o-rings and the collar through the rings (always put the collar THROUGH the o-rings)

If you burry the axle then you save alot of greif. - dont and should of burried them before winter.( and didnt) so i got to clear the axle every morning when i go out fo tangled /rapped up straw and sticksover 6' like to twist up chain after a couple yanks. So its in your favor to burry the axle .

Cause if theres nothing to get caught up on you dont have any worries but the strenght and contion of the chain and hardware.

If you have pebble stone and dont have winter every year . I can see why some leave up. But for fresh grass spots. (when chain spots move to new spot on the yard) your gunna fight grass tangle ups till the grass is all gone.

So take the burring the axle advice test me. So much bs.. (like i said i should have.)

I use some heavy duty rings pass my axle through 1 and drive the axle into the ground, leaving about 2' of the axle above the ground. I then weld a large round plate to the top. I have used all of the above mentioned chain ideas.

Marty made a tread for proper hardware and chain set ups.

The only diffrence is he leaves his axles up out of the ground. And doesnt bury them.

Its better to bury like so many have said.

I will find martys thread and post it here...

its easier to check them and avoid accidents of they arent burried. that being said mine are burried bc im afraid they will get tangled and freeze out in the snow or die or heat in the summer

I'd like to see some pictures of the setups burried. I have never come across any, and I don't think I am fully understanding.

First dig a hole about a foot deep, wrap your chain to you axle using a cold shut or laplink (most people use O'rings), place the axle in the hole and drive the axle all the way down with a sledge hammer. Fill in your hole that you dug and cover up the axle....ONLY THE CHAIN SHOULD BE COMING OUT OF THE GROUND!

That was as good as a Picture, and exactly what I was seeing in my head just wasn't sure if it was correct. Thanks.

I've never had the need for this technique but you never know. I leave my axles about 24" above ground.

Junk yard and rice truck. The 2 I have been using for years are modified. Lengthened and have some top plates welded to them, I came across some larger heavier duty "o" rings. Sorry I didn't clarify.
