Thanks, I appreciate that. I didn't really think of it as quitting so much as whether or not to start over.

I'm thinking right now is a good time to start something new. I'm not gonna jump head first back into bulldogs. I'll probably get a few patterdales for now. I will get more bulldogs, but not right this moment. I've had several good offers of good bred dogs. When the dogs I'm interested in are born, then perhaps it'll be time to rebuild. I just moved to this new town in what seems like a completely different country than my old house. Though I live in the middle of nowhere, there's always a chance someone will find out where my dogs are, enter the paranoia. So, by the time I fully secure my house and property, the pups should be born, and I believe then I'll be ready.

I can relate to this. Whether or not to get back into the bulldogs is not a simple matter of gameness as some might suggest. Humans are not dogs and should not think like them. Major life decisions cannot be reduced to a simple equation of quitting or not quitting. Most of the people who say they would never get out have not been in that long or that deep and have not been through horrible trials and tribulations with these dogs. These dogs can really mess your life up. I lost 20 years of my life's work. But, I am one of the lucky ones. Others I know are in prison, lost their dogs, their jobs, their homes....everything.
My suggestion would be to get into another breed of working dog that is legal. There are many out there and a lot of them are wonderful dogs. I know many ex-bulldog men who have gotten into other breeds and have excelled with them. And their lives are much better for it. I am one of them. In the end, I would have to agree with an ex-bulldog man I know: "Bulldogs are just not worth the trouble".

thanks for your understanding. I love the breed always have, but in one day my whole life was turned upside down. Everything I had worked so many years for was gone. I faced jail time, and losing everything else I had worked for. Paying lawyer costs and time off work nearly broke me. We had to move toa completely different area. I don't think I'll spend the rest of my life outta these dogs, but I still have mental issues to work out too. A car can't drive down the road past my house without my anxiety building. By the end of summer my property will be like a baby fort knox. Then I will be more comfortable I think. Until then I'm gonna see if I can't find some good patterdales to play around with.

Wow, this is a tough decision! Bulldogs do get in your blood deep. But if I went through what you have, then I would have to agree with benthere. Don't let other people indicate that your giving up, or quiting! The situation was forced on you. If you want back in, you would have to completely rebuild, thats not the same as quitting, or giving up. Just do what you think is best for your family, and yourself, don't let other influence you.
"Much success in what ever you decide."

thank you. I didn't really see it as quitting, the thought of quitting makes my stomach turn. I didn't get rid of my dogs, they were killed. My mentors, who have known me about as long as I've had dogs, seem to think I'll gett back in eventually. I agree just not in the near future. Most of the old dogmen I know don't have kids. My kids are a big deciding factor. It really hurt them when all the dogs died. I could not bear to see that look on their faces again. Who knows, I might get into patterdales and decide to just keep the memory of my old bulldogs close to my heart and that'll be the end of it. I appreciate all of your opinions and advice.

it's self indulgent to forget what your family went through. anyone that thinks it "quitting" just don't know any better. it's not really about the dogs there the means that justify the end. you owe nothing to them. you feed a hound the same as a apbt.

very true. Big reason to wait or stay out all together. Dogs are four legged creatures who provide me with entertainment and company, my family is my life, without them I have nothing.
