  1. hey guys i think i might have a problem on my hands with my older dog. he is perfect 99 percent of the time buy if people raise there voice at me he barks and growls at them and if there too close he starts niping them. if anyone lays a hand on me as a joke or not he gives them one bite on the arm then goes back to barking and growling. the problem is where i have to live right now has alot of drunk college age girls around that always yell and stuff and im worried about anything happening. also the girl i stay with loves him to death and he loves her too but if we get in a argument i have to control him the whole time and the second i let go he trys to go for her like he would a strange dog or squiril in the yard and last time he niped her pretty good and whacked him in the face and he knew he did something wrong but didnt learn from it and still goes after her if she starts yellin at me. getting him put down is the last thing i want to do so i wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice
    thanks

well firstly the muzle should not restrict the dogs breathing and ability to drink water . i beleive the lawmen and military use quick release types !

Drunk college girls, sounds great. If your going to keep him then you better keep him contained at all times. You can try to train but with him being old good luck.Use the muzle when he is out.

I understand how much you love this dog... but by reading your story it is only a question of time before someone really got injured!
Be a responsible owner and do what you got to do... and of course I understand you have a bond with your love him. Another option can be to build a kennel run for him...

  10. i dont have the space to build a dog house really, i only have about 15 ft by 15 ft yard and the owner doesnt want me to build anything there. hes only 2 years old so im thinking there might be more i can do. im also going to try to get him more exersize somehow because i know i cant run with him enough to wear him out id have a heart attack. im thinking some of his edginess might be from not running around enough.

crate him when indoors ,i think you know yourself that all dogs need excersise for mental and physical wellbeing .atb j

  12. u mean all day when were not walking keep him in a crate? i think the muzzle would be easier on everybody hel whine like crazy because he almost never is in there. he walks/jogs about a mile and a half every day but i dont let him run free. i feel like after the walk he isnt completley tired , and from what iv read a tired dog is a happy dog or something along those lines.

i didnt mean perminently crate him ,i should have said a crate could be his indoor kennel leave the door open for him and when you have company round shut the crate door .

  14. oh gotcha. that will work i guess. i really hope our 9 month old female doesnt start with this stuff when she gets older

I think your 9 month old female will be the first victim if you won't keep them seperated....

  16. we keep a close eye on them, and never leave them home alone without them being separated. suprisingly its the female(lilly) that always starts the play fights and the older one(waldo) plays nice unless she bites his nuts or starts playing too rough then he puts her in her place but since we got lilly in october he hasnt tried to kill her just loud kinda rough play fighting.

nothing wrong with having an HA dog, no matter the breed, IF you are responsible with keeping them properly contained and controlled AND they show no signs of aggression to the owner. and of course, if it's a breed like the APBT that's not supposed to have HA, you should never breed them.

crate him when you have people over. muzzle him if he's going to be around people and you have him out, including when on walks. never let him get into a situation where he can hurt someone. pretty simple. and of course, never let your dogs be together unsupervised.

here's an example of the kind of muzzle you'll want to use:

it allows them to pant and breath freely. just google wire basket muzzles and you can find one to buy.

  18. thank you, i need to find a tape measure real quick to get the right size but i found ones like that on this site http://www.dogmuzzle.com/wirbasdogmuz12.html. i guess i should probally be getting him fixed as well then

just keep a very close eye on them, rough play is fine, but it can escalate into an all-out war in a split second. i suggest you get a break stick if you don't already have one and know how to use it. the day WILL come when Waldo has enough and Lilly won't back down. prepare yourself NOW. and keep that break stick in a specific place where you know where it is at all times and it's easily gotten to. in fact, keep a couple on hand. you just never know. also, keep collars on them at all times. it can be a big help if you need to break up a fight, especially if it happens when you're by yourself.

also, know that once they have a serious fight, it's likely that they'll never be able to be out free together again. be prepared to crate and rotate one day.
