Where do you draw the line?

 

myself, i will keep a cold bitch and sit on her til around 3 1/2, of she stil isnt turned on i will breed her and keep every pup and see how they turn out. if they are not worthy, they will do my program no good, nor any others. that goes for male and female

 

Seems like a lot of wasted effort, time, and money, but whatever floats your boat. As long as you are happy with them that's all that matters.

 

i see where you are coming from, but i keep a rather small yard, so it really doesnt bother me to much. i have only had to deal with this twice where i was dealing with a cold dog, but know people who have did this, and waited.

 

I was thinking the same thing and if you keep a small yard I especially wouldn't waste my time on cold dogs. The way I think, I wouldn't waste my time with them if I kept a yard of 100 dogs, But, to each their own.

 

the reason i waited on the dog is because they way they where bred and the genetics. my parter had a sixbit maverick x genes lug cross that wasnt ready when i expected. but due to gene's lug dogs being late starters and sixbit dogs throwing that late starting trait into there offspring which is why i was patient. the sire didnt turn on unti 4 and when he did is was a bad mofo, on his first breeding he threw fire, and is continuing to still throw fire in his offsprings

 

I also keep a very small yard, and honestly to me that makes no sense to keep anything that doesn't fit my criteria or isn't completely up to what I want and expect from my animals. I feel having a smaller yard leaves less tolerance for mediocrity. Like I said before though as long as you are happy with your dogs that's really all that matters. Best of luck to you.

 

I agree with you 100% Peon. I also have a small yard and really try not to keep anything that is overal less quality than my foundation dogs. To get the best results, I feel you have to use the best individuals for your breeding program.

 

None of you are wrong and i see where you are coming from, but we all have different views, and perspectives on things.
i was told by the breeder to sit on her and be patient, " someone who has been working these bulldogs before i was born" and he is well,l respected not just by me but many others," he knows what he is talking about", so i took his advise and was patient and as a result i ended up with the whole litter being quality hounds. letting her go, i might have regreted it.
i usually never have this problem with any of my dogs, it wouldnt hurt to wait once or twice.

 

it depends what u have seen. if you have seen great dogs and have produced great dogs then you clearly know talent when you see it. what i am saying is you need to have seen talent to evaluate talent once that happens you can judge your yard against your yard and dont need to leave it but you do need to get the dogs out there sometimes to others that are competing

 

Cold is only a nice way of saying cur.....bullshit begets bullshit boys period the end.if u breed it u might get lucky with one but can be sure the offspring will throw cold curs.......thatsvlike taking a good glass of figi water and putting a drop of piss in it.........do you still want to drink it?

I gotta question why if this is a forum and website for preserving the true essence of the american pit bull terrier why is all these honest dog men that voice there opinion gettin banned? Mr young is a real good friend of mine and was good friends with a lot of the greats like david tant, vernon jackson, mr mayfield, mr tudor etc. All the dogs we talk about he has seen most of them also owning his own great dogs like gr ch youngs face. Not true at all! At least the cur gave it a shot the cold dog didn't have enough gameness to give it a try!!

 

Well im gonna add my 2 cents here.. We had a gyp that was true to the term cold through 24 months of age. At around the 30 month mark she decided to become a bulldog!! And she was one of the best bulldogs I've ever laid hands on. Thinking back, this lil gyp carried my ass so many times. I thank God I fed her and let her mature. Cold is NOT Cur!

 

I know shit, but I do know that a dog not being crazy doesn't mean it's not game, and vice versa....

 

as for a cold dog being a cur I think its further from the truth I wouldkeep a cold dog and I would get a pup off a cold dog but thats my oppinion
