The basic issue is that this is a show about her rescue, a show. You basically have to cater to an audience when you run a show, otherwise your show is canceled. If you aren't smart enough to realize this well no one can really do anything for you. So another issue regards whether the show should include the name pitbull in it. The generic name pitbull for the most part does reference the APBT for those in the loop of what this dog really is. Additionally, though, to the general public the name pitbull references the wide array of dogs generaly confused with the APBT, which include but are not limited to bullies, amstaffs, and other mutts. I don't believe that a show should always every single episode take the necessary time to educate the public on the basic differences between the APBT, bullies, and amstaffs etc. othewise the show could no longer justifiably be called Pitbulls and Parolees. It might have to be called Pitbulls, buliies and amstaffs: the differences. How many people would see the show again after the first episode. I remember on a certain thread regarding the name pitbull that it is not accurate to call the APBT just a pitbull, for various reasons, so why would anyone be offended with the name being used since the show is about a pitbull rescue as the general public understands it and not just a APBT rescue. Furthermore I think that this woman has been into the rescue thing for years prior to this show and I would venture to say that the reason why she made the deal with AP was to augment her income which allows her to stay afloat. If she was never shown on TV she would not be the object of ridicule or admiration(depending on your disposition and philosophy)by any one on this site. She would go on struggling picking up the unwanted "pitbulls" that for various reasons neither you nor anyone else would feed. So why doesn't any one sue her for claiming such a false statement that she runs the country's largest pitbull rescue, basically because the word pitbull technically by any standard does not refer to any particular dog in reality but to an agglomeration of dogs breeds that are mistakenly associated with the APBT. Its obvious that I support her service to these abandoned dogs particularly because some of these dogs do have a heavy APBT in their ancestry but for some reason are not worthy to the previous owner who abandoned them, this previous owner who did not have the balls, or the guts, of the decency to cull the dog himself or the responsibility to find an candidate to adopt his/her dog. It is understandable that there are some members in this site that are offended by the mere fact that someone other than themselves might dare say that they are familiar with the "pitbull" and that Tia Maria with her dubious history would even consider herself in the loop about the true APBT. But just consider that by today's standards she is as close to the Mother Teresa of "pitbulls" as it gets even if she doesn't focus specifically on rescuing only APBTs that have a proven and verifiable pedigree.

 

It's comments like these that make you take a few steps back and examine you're argument carefully. But still we have ask ourselves this question why does she do it? For the love & cause? For the recognition & $ ? Or to make herself feel better for her past sins? Only she knows the truth but still if you put you're audience first over you're cause then you are not being real to yourself . I understand the public sees the pitbull in a different way from how we do and not every episode should be an education about pitbull heritage but still she has to show the public a glimpse of a true pitbull. But how can she do that if she knows very little about the breed. I still admire her courage & hard work but she is still ignorant

Not to be facetious on the issue but like I said, would you rather the show was never made and instead have her struggling to maintain her dog rescue(because the the title of her organization is Villalobos Dog Rescue) scrounging for funds here and their so that she gets some respect from the APBT community. In that case like I said you or anyone for the most part would not even know she existed as you probably didn't before the show came on the air, and therefore her pitbull acumen would not even come under scrutiny. Of course its about the money, but in the sense that she uses it to maintain and even expand her operation. In the end when the show does eventually get shelved she will have some sort of security so that she can go on hoarding mongrels and whatnot with relatively less money woes, and the last thing on her mind will be how people feel, people who don't even care to help her out a liitle bit so she can get these dogs of the streets. That also might go for your taking issue with her insider knowledge which according to you she completely lacks or maybe ignores hence the word ingnorant. I agree with you that as far as her working knowledge goes she does lack in that department when it comes to the actual APBT and other "pitbull" breeds and therefore to a certain extent does do a disservice to the actual APBT but I think it actually hurts the pitbull fancier feelings more because she doesn't run to an expert for advice. Anyway who the hell is an expert? California Jack, Fat Bill, Tom Garner Floyd Boudreaux etc. etc? By most accounts that I have read here any dog man still alive that fancies themselves an expert is automatically ridiculed as a peddler, a fake, a charlatan, a criminal, a cur, not to mention other more picturesque qualifications, so I think that Tia Maria would do her cause a disservice if she went to a expert because in the pitbull community that expert would matter a factly be dubunked by another true expert who would be debunked by another true expert and on and on. Just enjoy the show for what it is and if you don't like it my suggestion would be that you turn off your TV, pick it up, and dump it out the window since it seems like reality TV is the choice of a new generation.

 

Here is a comment she made on an old episode to a class of high school learners. 'Pitbulls are and should never be used for fighting'. My argument here is that a novice in the world of pit dogs should never be allowed to each a generation eager to learn. She is just bringing up a generation of ignorance. In all honesty aside from the state laws anyone who has studied enough about these dogs will tell u their true & only purpose, 'to be boxed'. I would appreciate if she instead said 'the pitbull was bred for many generations through hard work. And determination bred to become the ultimate K9 warrior but it is ILLEGAL now & u should not break the law' . I say the word ignorant again. In my view the best teacher is the one who let's you do you're own research and evaluate from you're own research instead of doing things the way you think you're peers will appreciate and forget to satisfy yourself. Most of the great legends or revolutionaries ie, bob marley, malcom x,nelson mandela,che, were all people who either did not have mentors and went through life with their own research and self enlightment. And The ones that had mentors were allowed to decide what's in their best interest through research! I repeat what she does should be admired and she is probably one of the gamest women alive today but the shows name should have never been pitbulls & parolees if she was to rescue mongrels and she shows what a pitbull is not bringing up even more people like her in society. The more fame this breed gets the more it becomes a public enemy. I'm not saying it is a bad thing to rescue mongrels but people promoting a false image is what's frowned upon in society. She should stick to her promise and rescue the dog's with the closest resemblance to the apbt.

 

yah but every dog needs a hero... been thinkin about this all day, shes been in the game for along time right? and she does events and all that what makes you think shes so uneducated about the breed(s)? she's bound by the media in what she says on her show and she really needs the funding to support her rescue so she plays ball with ap and takes their money. the fact is you dont see alot of game dogs in california you see bullys and mutts i lived in california my whole life never once seen what i know now as a bull dog, only seen mutts and bullys in the 21 years i been on this earth. if she was in the south you might see some real bull dogs but the majority here is over/crapily bred bullys and mutts.

 

Actually I WOULD rather the show never ran. Maybe her crappy rescue would have been shut down by now.

I dont pretend to be an expert on pitbulls or even dogs, my experience is limited to ownership of a few(currently one pitbull), my girlfriend on the other hand comes from a training/showing family and has bred, trained and showed many different dogs in her lifetime so has taught me a few things, so im not completly ignorant on the matter however haha.

So... I unfortunatly just sat through a 30minute episode of "Pitbulls and Wanabes" which I regret is 30mins of my life that could have been used in a more constructive manor like sticking things in my eyes or maybe taking a crap. I cant beleive the s**t that these Idiots do... From the things she says to the tests they do when they are trying to home them.

Does this woman have any bloody idea about Pitbulls? or dogs for that matter?, her ignorance is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

That show anoyed me so much that I had to join a Pitbull site(people that KNOW these dogs) just to vent.... done

 

Tia Marie has devoted her life to helping dogs, pit bulls in particular, but she never turns her back on any dog in need. The ONLY reason she does the TV show is to help offset her $65k costs per month to run her new facility in New Orleans and to bring awareness to a misunderstood breed of dogs. She's not in this for fame or fortune, she Is in this to help these dogs that have no one else in world to help them...INCLUDING YOU. As for you people that have nothing better to do than make judge mental, crass, derogatory remarks about this caring woman just totally disgust me towards humanity. The ability to convey her emotions easily and wear her heart on her sleeve is gonna to make you judge her as a ex junkie and one who "has issues" is totally uncalled for and grossly judge mental and prejudice. Why can't people in this world find the good in humanity rather than sitting back on their high horses casting stones when they are the ones actually doing nothing to help humanity or the animal world that need our assistance just to survive? Think about that the next time you start talking about this ex junkie and how hot her daughters are and how you want to strap them up. You are disgusting and need to look deep within yourself to find out if you can or will ever see what is going on how to change the darkness in your heart. People like you disgust me. Take the time you spend bashing other people trying to help and go out yourself and actually help someone. Might just be the change you need, and need so badly. There are many breeds of dogs and cats out there who don't have anyone to take care of them. It's not the dogs fault but people's fault for getting into something they can't comit to. This show does need to go off the air, the HSUS and PETA need to stop using the APBT as a poster dog to get funds and people need to do their homework before getting an animal. This will not happen though! These dogs are a gold mine!

I don't watch the show , 99% of any show about APBT's is gonna be garbage. The main stream believe all are one and one are all, when it comes to bully breeds...so f*$k them and PETA,HSUS and any other idiot that has brought MY breed into the mainstream to make money and misinform the newbies to the true origins and uses of the APBT,AST,SBT,BT,AB all are different breeds....treat em' as such
