Man your rowdy dog was a beautiful animal and seemed to love you and that is a testament to you as an owner. Unfortunately I am getting ready to put down our house dog due to a few health issues ongoing. That Colby dog is a piece of history and I hope you keep us updated with pictures as he grows and matures. Good luck

    Thanks Banjoman and maydaymatt !!!

I received an email from the breeder that included a picture I thought I'd share.

In answer to a couple of questions I had of the breeder, he said that my pups sire, Rocco, weighs 38 pounds and dam, CiCi, weighs 32 pounds. I'm delighted to have a pup that will likely weigh 40 pounds or less when mature.

Now, to the picture the breeder sent ... It gave me chills when I looked at it !!! It gave me a sense of the look and feel of something historical. A picture as though a turn of the century Irish/English dog meets some 1930's big ole Midwest red dog.

Rocco (my pup's sire) is said to be 5 now and research indicates that Machobuck passed in 2008, so Rocco must have been 2 years old more or less, when this picture was taken.

Mason's Rocco Colby and Gr Ch ROM DOY 2004 Evolution Kennels Machobuck (place and date unknown) ...

My Rowdy was a red dog. I have a HUGE place in my heart for the red ones and the golden eyed ones steal my heart every time. I love that dog, Machobuck. I'm not sure of the circumstance of Machobucks passing, but like Rowdy, he too was young. Machobuck was whelped 4/21/2001 and died 9/21/2008. Only 7 years old.

I really haven't settled on a name for the pup. I thought "Lightnin" for a call name, but I'm rethinking that. The Colby's had a propensity for naming the dogs human names and while I'm not sure why, that may be a good way to go if I can think of a good name.

In a sense, I feel by naming a dog a human name, that is anthropomorphic, in that it somehow attaches human characteristics to an animal. Dogs aren't humans after all, so in the back of my mind I guess I've always had a small problem with that. On the other hand ... my pets are very much my family, so my thinking seems to be somewhat of a contradiction LOL. ... Maybe I'm thinking too hard about this HA !!!
