Blue vs Taste Of The Wild

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by TommyC, Jan 6, 2012.

  1. Was feeding my boy bb wilderness but he kept having stomach issues. So I swaped to totw and no more issues and get a bigger bad for cheaper. Been on it for about 5 months now. Very happy!

  2. Here's something that the company doesn't tell you about TOTW that might help make a better decision on which food to purchase. TOTW is a rotational based food (similar to Natures Variety) in that you can switch from High Prairie, Pacific Stream, Wetlands, etc and should have no problem with stomach issues. The food is formulated for that purpose. It's a brilliant idea in that dogs in the wild don't say "I'm only eating rabbits all week" they eat whatever they catch if its a squirrel, deer or whatever. Unlike other foods in the market that also are set "puppy, adult, senior" Taste of the Wild is a "All life stage" food so you can feed your puppy to senior the same food. Lastly this might turn people off but TOTW is a Diamond Pet food but hope that doesn't deter anyone since they also manufacturer Canidae, Natural Balance and Solid Gold to name a few.

Blue, Totw, And there's a company called Earthborn that's pretty good to. If your going to feed kibble those 3 are all pretty good. I don't think you will see a change in your hound on any of them. And I've fed all 3 at some point. I'm currently using Totw because its a little cheaper than Blue. Earthborn is in the same price range. Maybe even a few buck cheaper. They to also offer holistic or grain free and offer different choices of protein in the same variety. But check them out...you may like them aswell.

  4. It's a little misleading. Just to clarify... NB is NOT owned by Diamond. It is, however, manufactured in a Diamond plant in California, I believe.

There's some weird kibble things if you take the time to really research some popular brands. Such as, grain-inclusive 4Health is owned by Diamond, however grain-free 4Health is made by an entirely separate company named Ainsworth.

I few weeks back I was at a local feed store buying a bag of TOTW.. after I pay the cashier for my bag, the feller in line behind me tries to hand me $10...
I refuse the money and asked what he was doing. He informed me he worked for TOTW and wanted to thank me for buying they're product.

    Pretty cool.

I forgot to mention I did end up taking the 10 bucks once he explained that he worked for the company!!..
I said thanks, and told him what kind of dogs im feeding.

  8. Shoulda told him to keep the money and drop the price per bag.

Well that would be nice, but unrealistic.

  10. Don't I know it. Lol

It's funny because the reason I had originally put 2 of my dogs on TOTW over BB was because it looked like basically the same stuff but TOTW was $10 cheaper. Now they're price the same so it doesn't matter unless you have a personal preference or your dog does better on one over the other.

Although TOTW now offers a potato free formula, Southwest Canyon. I don't know how the price compares but if its the same, I'd put that above BB's all potato inclusive formulas.

  11. The fella was a heavy set white guy right, real cool guy an yes he works for Diamond. He's their sales rep and west coast rep for the food. He's always done that, take the money bro.

Natural Balance is manufactured by Diamond, it's considered a "private label" food

  13. tow is produced in the diamond facility and is unfortunately affected by recalls quite often. as they also produce Costco's food there and they cause the recalls often. I work in a small pet supply store and we are on top of recalls and unfortunately they get affected. so do a lot of other brands to. the definition of holistic is putting the emphasis on whole ingredients. there are a lot of holistic foods out there. tow is still a good food. however in the past there was a lack of support and bringing awareness about the recalls. it wasn't them we heard about it from until 6 weeks later. wilderness is also good but I do agree with the wilderness being the best in there line, unless your dog has allergies, then basic is best. all in all both foods are good. at the end of the day its what your individual dog does best on. give them a try for a few weeks and see what's best.
    good luck

My partner was feeding blue to his dogs and one dog ended up with bloody diahrea ...Maybe it was a botched bag, but either way it turned him off of it..I used to work at a BIG pet chain and when the blue people came in to update us on the food they put in the stores, all they said was the good..I asked them about my partners dog even though I was told not too from our manager but our dogs come first...and they acted surprised and had NO idea what to say...only thing I like about blue is their walnut cat litter that is the shit.........but TOTW is a great food IMO..
