I gotta say I agree with Herodog. I love APBT and related breeds but I don't like dog-fighting.
I don't understand how people can willingly put their animals through such heinous acts/pain for entertainment (I know someone will chew me out for this and say it's to "preserve the breed or whatever" but cmon. The dogs don't benefit from it in any way.) yet call an ambulance when they get mauled by a dog.

My opinion? People should allow a manbiter to rip em apart for a bit before even thinking about fighting-dogs. In all honesty, this story made my stomach turn at the thought of someone encouraging their dog to maul a stray. I know I'd take a bat to a dog AND owner if I found someone encouraging their dog to maul my pets.

Adding on: It reminds of like teaching a kid to swear and when he swears, you say "it's in his nature!" orr... programming a robot to do a task and then saying "he wants to do it!"
It don't make any sense to me and the logic behind it never will.. but oh well.

Its not entertainment for some people..but for some it is entertainment..Some people understand the importance of it .Without it you would have nothing but staffs running around..I dont break any laws but I tip my hat to the men and woemen that put thier ass on the line every day to preserve the APBT!

a robot is a machine YOU program and the kid learned that bad habit from someone(human). The child didn't just pop out of the whom saying F U. So try again. History has show you can't make a dog fight...and rules have tried to take mans ego out but not forcing a dog who dosen't want to. Thats why there was/is a ten count and a scratch line read the rules it's part of the breeds history. With out there history we wouldn't have the breed we love today!

By definition it is entertainment, but I don't really feel like getting into pedantics.

noun 1.the act of entertaining; agreeable occupation for the mind; diversion; amusement: Solving the daily crossword puzzle is an entertainment for many.

2.something affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement, especially a performance of some kind: The highlight of the ball was an elaborate entertainment.

3.hospitable provision for the needs and wants of guests."

As for the comment about fighting dogs keeps APBT as APBT, I disagree. German Shepherd Dogs are an extremely popular all-around working breed but the people who do not put their GSDs into sports such as schutzhund, S&R, french ring, etc still own and breed GSDs. The GSD is an extremely popular breed and will continue to exist for a very long time.
The people we should be worrying about "turning pits into staffs" are the people who breed manbiting AmBullies for show and label them as APBT.

Well... history shows that people breed dogs who have won fights are sought after for how well they fight/how many fights they've won. People see this and want to breed their fighting pits with these champs in the hopes of getting good fighting dogs. It's selectively breeding a dog breed to exhibit personality/temperament traits such as gameness, tenacity and how well the dog performs in a fight. It's just like programming a robot.

By "making a dog fight" I don't mean to imply people open their dogs mouths and smash the dogs against each other, hoping the dogs will eventually snap, I mean selectively breeding DA dogs with DA dogs to get a DA breed that fights and kills other dogs.

As for the "child popping out of the womb and saying 'fuck you'"... I said the adult teaching the child to say "fuck you" and then saying "it's in his nature!" when someone scolds the parent for allowing their child to speak in such a manner.

Bluedog your lost man ..the people breeding GSD's for no reason have poor example's of the breed..Just because a dogs parents were good represenatives of a particular breed doesnt mean thier offspring will be.And if you think people work thier dogs for entertainment your fuckin crazy! I guess you have never worked a dog for a competition !You dont have a clue how much work it takes and the bond thats developed between the handler and the dog..You actually think people like to see thier dog get ripped up in a match? If so please name one? Every time 2 camps go into each other in a match thier is a looser..Most people hate to loose so it drives the looser to make his dogs better which is good for the breed! The only people its entertaining to are the spectators doing the gambling. Its not fucking entertainment to see your dog gettin his ass beat!Go plaaaaay with your fucking bluedogs somewhere else and quit dishonoring the breed and the people who do thier best to preserve the breed!

I wouldn't want to see my animals ripped up so that's why I don't fight them.

But I digress. :) Have a nice day, Bamaman.

The german shepherd breeders that do not work their dogs and still breeding them are not breeding WORKING german shepherds, they are breeding POOR dogs. How can you proclaim these german shepherd breeders that do not work their dogs, and yet still breeds them, to be breeding working dogs? How can a breeder be breeding two working dogs that are not worked? If you mean that definition by they are breeding a "working breed" that does not work, then you are breeding POOR examples of the breed.

Your comment about people breeding manbiting ambullies and labeling them as pitbulls is the only comment that has any validity, but these are not people turning apbts into staffs. The staffordshire and the american staffordshire are both considered breeds, as are, in my opinion, the few working staffs that are still out there but, thankfully, in a closed circle.

Yes, history has shown that people have bred to improve performance and, above all else, gameness. The apbt has many monikers, such as bulldog. However, the nickname that is best associated by the apbt is "gamedog" so naturally breeders of apbts will breed for gameness as that is the trait of the apbt. If these breeders did not, they would not be considered breeders but merely a person that allowed their dogs to mate. A breeder's goal is to improve his choice of breed. What the hell was the point of that statement about selecting for gameness?

Name me ONE apbt breeder that breeds for dog aggression, and I mean an actual breeder and not just some idiot looking for a quick dollar. Also find me ONE registry that states aggression is a required trait of the apbt, although, admittedly and I mean no offense to anyone here, I hate conformation shows. You do realize that nobody breeds apbts for dog aggression right? In fact, there have been many a great apbts that were not dog aggressive. Apbt breeders breed for GAMENESS, not AGGRESSION. You also realize that dog aggression is present in every breed of dogs right?

Herodog1 - It's good that you can't own a Pit Bull - What you need is an Am. Staff. The A.K.C. has done a fine job of breeding the "Life Force" out of every breed that it has gotten it's hands on. Read the history of any of their breeds and you will find that that 90% of the dogs can no longer do what they were originally bred to do. The Am. Staff. might have begun as a Pit Bull but as soon as the "breeders" and "show people" put their stamp of what they thought the breed should look like and bred only for looks and docility (or temperament as they would call it) then the true breed was dead and a new one appeared. If you got a real Pit Bull you would either be putting it down or returning it to the breeder as soon as it started acting out and turning on. That is something you cannot train out of the dog - you just learn to control it. I visited with Pete Sparks when I first moved to Florida years ago and he told me there were two rules to always remember about Pit Bulls :1."NEVER TRUST A BULLDOG NOT TO FIGHT! " 2."NEVER TRUST A BULLDOG NOT TO FIGHT."

I used to have a bitch names Scrappie off of Kottonmouth x Ivory Belle (IB) litter. In this litter there was 5 puppies. 4 males and 1 female. Every dog out of this
litter was able to make it into the square walls. This is the same litter that produced Tre Ace's Bout It who won over Mardi Gras Kennel's Mac in 2:52.
