When should I begin feeding my 11mth pup adult food? I was thinking until the end of the yr.

From what I have been told, puppy food is bad for the dog. It is made to speed up the growth process and could cause health problems. I am sure there are others who can elaborate. I have never fed puppy food and all of my dogs have grown up fine. Think about it, in the wild, the pups would eat the same thing as the adults.
Switch your dog over to adult food gradually and make sure the kibble is of good quality.

we give to the pups good quality puppy food before the 6 month of age for the dimension of the food and after we give a normal food for adult dog good quality[IMG] no less quality[IMG].

I fed Jaha puppy food until he was a year old and then I've been doing half and half. When he is somewhere between a year and a half and 2 yrs. I'm going to switch him to strictly adult dog food.

I don't use puppy chow at all. The sooner you switch the better.

when switching over to adult food(i did mine at a year old) do it gradually. i was told to start out putting a fifth of the total food the adult stuff. one week later, 2/5, and so on. deducting the pup food as you go. it's easier on their systems. and make sure you use a high quality food. one preferred and recommended by pit owners..canadae/diamond/natural choice/chicken soup. etc.

I usually feed puppy food until about six months and during the next six months I keep a close eye on the pup. If they are getting to long legged, big footed or their but end is getting high I will switch to half and half {adult and puppy} and if need be, to all adult if that doesn't alleviate the problem by slowing down and balancing out the growth rate. If they are doing fine on puppy I will leave them on that until they are a year.

Good point. I have done some more research and it seems that it is real important to keep an eye on these things as Zoe said. It is also important to make sure that the pup does not get fat. From what I have found, obese puppies are more prone to dysplasia than those that were kept at a healthy weight.

I only use puppy food for the first four months. Remember, FAST GROWTH is BAD.
Just use a quality adult food and don't over do the supplements. That took years for me to learn. A slower growing dog will always end up healthier as an adult.

My dog is 11mths and 48lbs. He's a Blackjack/Tab, Rascal dog. I've been feeding him large breed puppy Eukanuba and Nutro Lamb Rice. What adult food you guys recommend?

I was thinking Large breed adult Nutro Lamb and rice?

Anyone know anything about the new NutroMaxx Large breed Beef?

I use to feed him medium breed but he's 48lbs, so I figured large breed. How many cups should I be giving him now? I feed about 3 cups/day.

Large breed, small breed, medium breed, mutt breed, ugly breed, stupid breed, etc. etc. are nothing more than a sales ploy from the dog food manufacturers.

The same here I feed my pups the same food from the cradle to the grave. I start them eating adult feed at 3 weeks an I have never had a problem. All my pups come out thick an healthy with great coats.
