folks that breed there own stock

At the end of the day weather you breed, show or both.... It means very little if the stock cannot function on any other yard and that goes for any type of breeding a person may do. If you are a person who farms out pups, sells pups from time to time, or what ever the case may be, if the stock only works for the original breeder, then the line/strain has no legitimacy. It is a absolute must for any line/strain to be able to function at its desired level in the hands of others or the line/strain will simple die out or be of very poor quality like some of the current lines around these days. JMO

If a line/strain or breeding cant function in the hands of other EXPERIENCED dogmen then it needs to be culled. BUT the standards of a experience dogman dont change because of who's line/strain or breeding they are using.

 

"F1 applies only to family bred dogs"  that's with everything being equal & true.  this is a motherfucker with these dogs. there's a few ways i look @ that & already posted in past DNA threads.they were a family before we got them i was going to post that article shine wrote lol.

 

I think the point is that a good dog is subjective and what you might think is a damn fine representation of the breed might be a cull on another mans yard. Or maybe a dog that is good compared to the dogs in one state might not stack up in another area. If your dogs are at the top of the food chain no matter where you put them then that says something. There are certain dogs and breeders you will find in peds and yards no matter where you go because they were some of the best no matter where they landed. You might think what you have is the best but there is only one way to know for sure and thats to let them out and see what happens.

 

I disagree here is why not every EXPERIENCED dog man has the same standards for their dogs and what they consider to be quality may vary greatly depending on the person behind the dogs.

well a good line may do ok with a jackass I have sold some damn fine I meen fine prospects young dogs 15 to 17 months old only to see them hacked up to shit in a few years bred to every bitch around hell I have had people call me up and try and give me pups back down from my old stuff and I dont even want the shit now. Thats the problem not bad strains bad people thats the problem why does every one get a good male and think they have to breed to any and every bitch in the world. It does no good for the dogs as a whole. breed only very good dogs from provin lines with good pedsthat u know are true and you will be just fine you will have to cull but thats dogs. Why does every one breed there bitch just couse she has paper and is in heat. only breed the best you can see not only paper but hunting skills, I would much reather raise a pup out of two damn game all you can want in a dog dogs then lets just see if it works and pile 100 dogs on the yard. that dont make you a dog man or a breeder and it dnt help you at all. I would reather have 5 world beaters than 2o ave game bulldogs

 

Basically an ace turns up from a breeding of a family of dogs that never reproduces itself is because the ace is just a freak a one in a million so to speak.The dog can never reproduce its self because its bloodline/family are not all aces ,so it produces what is consistent within its bloodline.Look at Zebo( he had bite,gameness,athletic ability,roughness) for one,he never produced anything close to his self but he produced dogs that where athletic hard biting(but not no where as close as him) ,rough dogs which is the norm for that family.They tried to reproduce Zebo by breeding the same dogs with in the family and so forth but could never reproduce Zebo.So that tells me Zebo was a freak ,one in a million,and ace.I believe its the same with all families/bloodlines of dogs .Thats why old timers would say u breed for gameness first . Cull hard to get what u want and maybe just maybe u might get that ace.

The way we rate a line is based on percentage... Percentage of quality produced regardless of ownership on a consistant bases. There is no standard to judge the dogs if the dog do not work for anyone else, that would prove the standards of the individual who is breeding dogs to be below the standard if they cannot work on any other yard. Without the dogs working for others the way the breeder claims they will work, you cant even reach the basic standards to call it " working stock". You would be a back yard breeder who claims to have working dogs... They're just so special that they only work for him. Lmao ( typical)

Heres my opinion, for those who do breed and use their own blood. No matter how good your dogs are, they will get stagnant in time. You are going to have to add something, at some point. There lies the problem with a lot of bulldoggers though, they spend years breeding their own stock, then become blind to whats obvious to others. Then their pride often keeps them from adding something new to their program that would be beneficial. Or, they do add something, and just hang papers lol...
