unfortunately,at the time, I didn't have my phone or a camera on me. I went to pick up drinks at the local grocery store and on my way home, I saw this dog.

LOL! Seen it happen also in English Bullterriers!
That´s a slight fault concerning the breeds standard but it can happen now and then!
See in my town there has been a dog that looked exactly like a nice English Bullterrier and has been sold as EBT also but he was wirehaired like a Irish Terrier! All white whit a black and tan ear! LOL!
As this guy was researching his puppies parents they admitted that they ripped him of as the sire to this dog has been a West Higland White Terrier! LOL! Anyways awesome looking dog!

staffordhire bull terriers coats are like the pics use have shown there is no throw back thats just the coat the dog comes with.englishbull terriers are the same i have one here and they get a slight wave on there coat most of the time on the back near the base of the tail.some dogs u may see at shows are more groomed with short haired stripping comb and coats are glossed up also tails can be shaved on the underside and tapered.when u say throw back are you mean like a throw back to the terrier that was originaly used to make bull and terrier crosses? the first pic u put up is a standard stafford probaly around 16,17 tts alot are bred for shows now at around 14,15 tts

I have seen and even produced dogs that have this kind of coat (course and wiry). They can show up in a breeding of two dogs with smooth coats. I consider it a minor fault. Like any other minor fault, I wouldn't throw the baby away with the bath water. But I also wouldn't breed two dogs together if both had that fault. It is an interesting question where it comes from. It could be a kind of proof that terriers are one of the ancestors of SBTs and APBTs. I mention that because Stratton has written that he didn't think terriers were back there.

Yea, it's a cosmetic issue, and if the dogs in question were great otherwise, it might not be a deterrent. It is possible that you could set this trait into your line by breeding the two together. It is also possible that you would produce dogs with typical coats.
