my female pitbull is 7 months and 2 weeks old she hasnt went into heat yet, but she has not been acting like her self, i was walking her the other day and she tryed to go after some young kids, she has been trying to fight the older dogs,I have never seen her act like this, she is always a very sweet dog, i just got back home the other day from a little 6 week trip, my mom said she didnt start acting up until i got back home, I am thinkin that she is acting up because she is about to go into heat, maybe i am wrong, also isnt she kind of late on the heat thing, should i take her to the vet?

Mine's in heat right now and she is 11 months old... yet she was showing mental signs of it way before her physical signs

First, most dogs don't go into their first heat cycle until the ages of 9 months-1 yr of age with the small exception of a few that go in & 6-8 months.

Second, even dogs in heat do NOT act as your dog is doing! Even when my bitches are in heat, they are still loving, obedient dogs.

Your dog is giving you a warning! You need to consult a good, reputable trainer & sign up for obedience training & some behavioral consultations now. Aggression towards children is not acceptable under any terms!

i agree with mia just because its in heat doesnt mean it gets to act different or exhibit bad behavior train it now.

I think it also is coming from my mom sister and my neices babying her, she whines and gets w/e she wants, could this be starting to come back to bite me in the ass

yea if the kids were playing, she could have jus gotten excited. the main thing is socialize her with people and children, when dogs never see something they can be aggresive towards it. i say socialization is the key here

the 2 teenagers maybe 14 were throwin the football, she has been brought up around kids, she is very protective over my neices if there mom trys to pop them she starts to growl, i correct her as soon as she does it, she will only listen to me and my mom, and my oldest neice which is five , I am about to start making here listen to everyone in this house, i need to find a play to take her to socialize

Another thing my friend brought his 5 month old blue male over i walked in to get a cig, came back out and he was letting them, do something he shouldnt have, i cussed him out and told him not to bring his ass back in my yard or i was gonna put a beat down on him, i think this is why she is trying to fight all the other dogs now, im gonna watch her and correct every little thing she does that she shouldnt be, she has just entered boot camp

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

.. even in heat lots of females wont let males or other dogs around them until they are ready to breed.. and even then with some good luck lol..

Anytime your dog has very noticable changes in behavoir, your best to consult a vet and have a check up done just to be safe and rule out any medical issues before focusing on training.. Granted she's at that age where hormones begin to kick in.. and sounds like you've been away for awhile.. but dog temperments just dont change over nite..
