They can't digest it. Pretty much good for nothing. Takes up space where other nutrients could go.

nah bro, corn is just a cheap filler found in many commercial dog foods. it isnt nutritional at all for dogs. rice would be a better choice, but again it is still just a filler. dogs need moderate protein, fat, minimal carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals to thrive.

corn harvest is just about winding down here in central mexico, but while the fields were filled with corn my bitch would love to have a bite, especially the stem right at the base of the husk, to the point I had to take it away from her for fear she would become constipated. Must have been the sweetness or something but she would crunch into them cobs like if they were bones.

  6. thanks to all your replies! appreciate it. :)

Corn serves as natural roughage , and helps to clean out the intestines as it does in humans , so I was told . Only should be given in small small amounts mixed in with their food every once in a while . Notice that it comes out the same way it goes in and should never be given on the cobb only out of the can ! But who knows jus something I was told !

Well after about two months of on and off scavanging for cobs every so often my dog did not die. Not sure as to the circumstances surrounding your dogs death, (as in the cob was swallowed whole as opposed to munching on it to small pieces). I am not condoning the practice I am just sharing my experience, though this is the first I have heard that cobs are life threatning to dogs.

On another note one time during a cookout a small pup stole a whole jalapeƱo chile that had been roasted and swallowed it with stem and all not even realizing that it would burn its mouth. Someone at the cookout told me the dog was gona die soon but the dog is still alive to this day.

It is not bad per say (as in it will kill your dog in a few hours or days or months), but it does not offer too much nutritional value as stated above, and if it is one of the primary ingredients then you may want to supplement with other options to provide a wider array of nutrients and protein if you demand high performance from your dog and have no other options for a more nutritional commercial feed.

  12. Thanks babedulce! I am looking for cheaper dogfood here available in PHI. Currently im feeding my dogs vitality's beefpro and some raw feeding if available. thanks to all your inputs.

  13. another question though, what do you feed your lovable pets and your reviews?? I dunno if there is another thread regarding this. (sorry) thanks!
