i have always been told my older dog men to "stick with what you have", but sometimes i hear "dont be kennel blind" in others words only limiting yourself to only one bloodline or kennel of dogs.

what your opinion this? do you stick with what you have, or dont be kennel blind and try out numerous lines

Kennel blind doesnt mean what you think it means.

It means you are not capable of seeing faults in ur own dogs. Which doesnt necessarily mean u need to try others, cuz most likely youll be kennel blind with them too. You just need to be more realistic with what you have.

This ... Doesn't matter what family or strain you are working with if you are not able to see the faults in what you are working with that will hinder you regardless of what you breed to. Don't be kennel blind really just means don't ever think there is never any room for improvement you should be able to look at your dogs objectively and identify what faults are there how you choose to improve upon what you have is really up to you but in order to fix or improve something you must first be able to see the problem once you see it a solution can be made.

I always say invest on knowledge first because whatever you see might not be what it seems if you can not make your own logical decisions on this dogs. Very good post by Grizz and Sadie.

BLUE8BULL If you didn't breed & work & breed them after they have proven themselves nigerino,FB , tonka etc, then don't talk about nigerino , Tonka.,etc. If your not FB then don't pose as FB. If you enjoy talking about folks & pedigrees , then be a man & show why you have such great opinions! where you base & get you knowledge from. You can buy every Patrick dog, Patrick sold. You are still not Patrick! We have done more work then we will ever show. done more things that we have ever talked about. But , when we try to answer a question we don't mind using our own work as reference! Because we have done 4 decades worth of work. So if don't mind. We would like to just share a little insite to whomever my want it with any childish stuff coming from someone not on our level. Our dogs have proven themselves in every way possible more times that anyone can count. There not house hold names . 90% of what we bred we kept in house!! 90%! And we have almost 90 registered breeding & around 20-30 more un-registered. You do the math on how many dogs we have dealt with, without letting most go to the open public. You & folks like you have sold way more dogs on average to the public then we ever had! Fact! But the reality is we have done more work then most did, just not told or sold as much. So can we please just do what were doing with out the childishness? Just giving out free info. That's all.

There is a difference in sticking with what you've got and being kennel blind. You should stick with what you have IFFFFF it continues to do what you want it to do in reasonable percentage. If that begins to dissipate then you add, change, cross or whatever it takes to keep the proper ongoing quality in your dogs.

It's not some cookie cut proposition. It's ongoing, changeable as needed, kept as needed, added to if needed etc. Kennel blind is what both Mav and Sadie described it as. It matters not if what you have is long lived and been the same for awhile, or has been crossed to or changed in any way. If you can't truthfully evaluate your dogs and breed according to those truths, then you are likely kennel blind.

Stick to your own dogs because you know them best you have already done the hard yards with them.

Don't be kennel blind- Know where your dogs lack and try to ad to them using different bloodlines or different dogs from the same bloodline.

The strongest form of kennel blindness, i have noticed in people, is where they have done some breedings and they believed deep in there little hearts that the breedings would work. Later to discover the breedings didn't work. Instead of accepting reality and changing course they just kept down the same path. This behavior will actual quit you....

Fact is you can be kennel blind if you want, however, unless you have struck upon some great dogs with luck, you will quickly have a yard full of shit.
