Hey everyone. Im new on here but love all the info help everyone puts into the site. This past weekend we picked up our new pit pup. She is a 8 wk old Colby dog so far seems to be full of go but when u put her in a kennel inside or out she will just sit and scream and howl. I'm not just talking about 10 r 15 mins or so like any puppy I'm talking hours! If she is loose with the other house dogs r with us she is fine. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a pup just sit and howl for hrs even aft long play times I wud think she wud b tired but nope soon as she goes in her kennel she up an screaming. Any ideas or help wud really be appreciated! Thanks

Got one just the same and he is a colby dog. He stays inside, roams the house and bothers nothing. Wonderful member of the family. You have a great dog I'm betting. Seperation anxiety. He brakes out of crates and will be found on the couch chillin.

Care to show a pedigree of the pup? I have some pictures of mine on my page, and if you care to exchange pedigrees to look at you may pm or post whichever. Mine is not "All" colby, but 3/4 or more depending how you look at it.
\ Where you located at ?? We are in Illinois.

Dont let the pup see your screen name - he will strive to show adverse when he is ready.. LOL

i had this problem in the past as well couple things i did to try to get the pup usto his crate was put a blanket in the kennel and put the pup in the kennel and sit in front of the kennel and give him praises and a treat for being quiet i always leave pups with a toy hanging from his kennel so he has something to do so he don't get to bored and i always have a rawhide in there aswell a other thing that seemed to work for me was to put him in his kennel with an older dog that is really mellow and likes the pup

Put a blanket in the kennel and cover the crate with a blanket. Pups do this they will scream for awhile and like babies you let them scream it out until they stop as long as they have been fed and taken out they are fine don't pacify them. They will eventually get used to the crate some are just a little more resistant than others. You might want to place the crate in a quiet area of the house as well but covering the crate always helped keep my dogs quiet.

Separation anxiety is rough with any dog, my male has it bad, I'd lock him in a room when I left the house and he chewed the door frame off!

I now use a hollow bone filled with peanut butter which he knaws on while I'm out and he hasn't destroyed anything since.

The baydog site? I check in there once in a while. A lot of good info and people that aint trying to charge out the ass for some dogs too. So you have some curr's aswell? I have no experience with them, but they seem to have purpose.
    Dont they bay ??

Welcome to the forum currdog! And for your pup, what you can try is sit next to the kennel before you close it and wait till the pup relaxes and massage the little booger, reward him with a good treat no dog can resist, then once the pup is chewing on it, close the kennel and place a blanket over the top and see if that helps. Does the pup ever stop after those hours? If so, reward them once they are laying down being calm. That's what I do, hope you find out what works. Good luck!

Mccoypitbulls I have catahoulas an yea they mainly bay. Mine are a little gritty an will stretch one out if it ain't big r too bad and sometimes try them as well lol. Parkercurdogs is a good site. Lotta good reading an some decent guys on there of course it's a few that's drama but then again where ever u go u find one r two. Arkansas hunting.net has a section for hogs as well. I ain't got the best dogs by no means but the screw up an get one on e in awhile haha but they ain't nutin like workin w ur dogs an sending a good pit in to seal it up!!! Actually my buddy that moved to Illinois is the one that got me started in it.
