    lace he's right you use alcohol and vinegar but in a healthy ear after the infection is gone . sometimes water will make it worse . that's why you use alcohol and vinegar on a tuff case . and kirkland and creel well they showed alot of good ones and you would be lucky to see them . james was around a very longgggggggg time .

    as far as the water statement.......im not arguing this anymore....the alchohol will speed up the evaporation so the ear doesnt get water logged.....


    im not arguing the active ingredients fellas, im simply stating that it also needs to be diluted with 1/3rd water.....will they survive without the water, im sure they will.....but fuck....thats jacked up.....EVEN WITH the water you can tell it burns em.....i cant imagine what it feels like without.... my work is done here guys....dont worry, i wont charge for the priceless education i just instilled into you guys...thats a freeby on me! happy new years!!!

    lace my vet is the 1 who told me to do it . because some was hard to heal . and this is going back to the vet the 3nd time and he told me we need to stop the water . it was a bad year the whole yard was shaking their heads . i think it rained ever day for over a month . the vet said it was the weather he throught . and i'm sure not all vets will tell you to do it this way . but mine did and i bet JTC 's vet told him the same or one of his friends vets .

    to get back on topic try this.... 16oz. bottle of isopropyl alcohol...two tablespoons of boric acid...and 10-12 drops of genetian violet...shake well and put in the ear, rub it around and let the dog shake it out....the alcohol will quickly evaporate removing both the alcohol as well as moisture in the ear...the boric acid will lower the ph of the area to not only kill bacterial infections but yeast infections as well. the genetian violet will serve as a topical antibiotic. if an there is redness and infection treat the dog twice a day for five to seven days and then once a week for three weeks. then clean and treat as necessary. different dogs have different issues based on the individual dog as well as the living conditions/habits of the dog. the stuff works wonders. less than fifteen bucks will get more than a years worth of flush/cleaner and treatment.
    isopropyl alcohol is a 70% solution with 30% purified water. it is weak to the say the least. adding water to a 50/50 mix takes it down to a 35% solution. it will more than likely work the same as an antiseptic but the evaporation effect is cut in half, and if one were to do the math, even less than half because more liquid was added. a 50/50 split with vinegar is the same issue..more liquid left in the ear asking a 35% solution of alcohol to remove its own water as well as the liquid of the vinegar...use boric acid which easily goes into solution but is a powder, lowers the ph and readily evaporates with the 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol. works wonders...all from the local drug store.     As long as the top is on the bottle I doubt it can go bad. I use it monthly on the dogs for regular maintenance. I step it up if I see signs of infection. I have a beagle that runs loose on the yard and his favorite thing to do is 'waller' in a muddy creek bed. He leaves home a tri-color beagle and comes back a black dog. He has some issues with his ears. I treat him monthly during the winter and every other week in the summer. US1

    back on topic theres a site i believe called petdocsoncall(or something like that) that should have multiple recipe's for the homemade ear flush.....im actually looking at this bottle of stuff i got called naturvet and the ingredients are spot for spot what slim posted, in addition with tea tree oil.............

    on a more positive note, theres also a vetericyn ear flush available too.....if its anything like its wound treatment...its definately worth a shot!!

    zymox works very well, ill use that if the home remedy stuff doesnt work.....

    Cleaning dog ears is very important to safe them from different diseases I have tried different ear cleaner for my dog.But i prefer vinegar for ear wash.I woks good as a cleaning agent.
