NC: SPCA of Franklin County Shutting Down..

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today. After nine years of operating the SPCA of Franklin County will be shutting down effective January 31, 2013 unless I have ten people step forward and commit to keeping the doors open.

I started the SPCA of FC back in 2003 with the goal of providing spay/neuter financial assistance to low income pet owners. Since then the SPCA of Franklin County has done the following:

provided spay/neuter assistance and pet food and supplies for low income pet owners
feral cat education, training and assistance for colony caregivers
    grief counseling
    lost and found assistance
    vet care for special cases

    and much more.

However, without a dedicated team of volunteers who are willing to be on the Board of Directors or fill the Program Leader positions I simply can not continue to operate the SPCA of FC on my own. So I am asking you for help to keep the SPCA of FC up and running.

Running a non-profit is just like running a business but without keeping the money or getting paid. And like any business it needs a management team (Board of Directors) and regular employees (volunteers) to run smoothly. The SPCA of FC needs a minimum of ten volunteers willing to dedicate a minimum of two days a week in order to operate.

Those of you who know me personally know how much I do but for those of you who have never been behind the scenes here's a breakdown of the typical things I handle during a week:

    returning voicemails
    answering emails
updating the website and social media
    reviewing spay/neuter assistance applications
    balancing the checkbook
    organize fundraisers & rabies clinics
    write grants
outreach events such as visiting local schools or booths at local events

Of course not all of these things happen every week but as you can see it is more then one person alone can handle. And that's why I need your help. Without more volunteers I simply can not continue.

I have dedicated nine years of my life to helping the pets of Franklin County because I believe that by helping them I am helping the community. I strongly believe that spay/neuter assistance is vital to controlling the pet overpopulation problem in Franklin County. I strongly believe in keeping pets with their families by providing food and supplies to those who need it. I strongly believe that building fences for dogs on chains makes for better dogs and dog owners. I strongly believe in helping feral cats live healthier lives.

If you believe in any of these things then I need you.
If you love animals and want to help them then I need you.
If you have any experience as a volunteer then I need you.
If you are at all interested in helping keep the doors open then I need you.

Call me at 919-556-0954 no later then January 31, 2013 to tell me you want to be part of the team.
