    Idaho triple slaying linked to dogfighting ring, marijuana growing business, authorities say

    (CBS/AP) BOISE, Idaho - Two men and a woman were shot and killed at an eastern Idaho residence that is believed to have been associated with a dogfighting ring and a marijuana growing operation, authorities said Sunday.

    The bodies of 61-year-old Brent Christensen, 32-year-old Trent Christensen and 27-year-old Yavette Carter were discovered Friday outside Holbrook, a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line.

    Authorities said names found in records associated with the Holbrook home are providing leads in the victims' deaths.

    "We believe that they knew who the killer was," said Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad. "There's no evidence there was a robbery."

    Trent Christensen is Brent Christensen's son and Carter's boyfriend. The sheriff said the couple had a 2-year-old and an infant. They were found unharmed, the infant under the arm of Carter. The children were turned over to one of the grandmothers.

    Semrad said cash and 38 marijuana plants valued at $95,000 were in the house, which was still being examined for evidence Sunday. He also said 64 pit bulls at the property were used for fighting, and that some were being boarded by Brent Christensen for other people. He said the names police have come across are not local but are from other parts of southern Idaho and northern Utah.

    "One of the problems we're having is those people don't want to come and get their dogs because of what was going on," Semrad said. "We talked to a couple people but no one wants to admit that's what was going on."

    He said the agency is working with the Idaho Humane Society to remove the dogs.

    "A lot of these dogs have been fighting, so they're not going to make real good house pets," the sheriff said.

    Idaho lawmakers made dogfighting a felony in 2008 after a 2007 case in Oneida County. Semrad said the Christensens weren't involved in that previous dogfighting case.

    He said one of his officers is a relative of the victims who stopped at the house sometime last year, but found nothing illegal going on at that time.

    "We've been out there a couple times just to talk to them," Semrad said. "They pretty much kept to themselves. We didn't have any complaints."

    Semrad said Brent Christensen appears to have made a living through dogfighting and growing marijuana, but he also worked odd jobs occasionally on local farms so some neighbors in the rural area knew him.

    "This is a big shock to our community," Semrad said, noting it was the first triple killing in the county's history. "The last homicide we had was in 2000. We've gone 13 years. This just isn't something that happens here, out in the Holbrook area. It's tightknit. They're hardworking people. I've talked to several of them. They're shocked that this could happen in their community."

    Semrad said autopsies were performed Saturday but he declined to release details.

    There is no evidence of a dog fighting ring, and Brent was not supporting himself with proceeds from dog fighting. The dogs were well cared for, and were top notch animals. The funerals for at least 2 of the victims will be tomorrow. People should be quicker to look for the killer and slower to criminalize the family because they cant speak for themselves. Rest in Peace Trent, Brent, and Yavette.

    Ever notice how every one who owns these dogs is always connected to a dog fighting ring....smh.

    They seem like they are worring more about the pot and.the bulldogs than solving the triple murder. How sick is that.

    My he and his family R.I.P. i feel bad for the 2 little kids that will have to go through life without either parent, thats horrible. Hope they find the person responsible...

    It's like there tryin to say see I told ya so... How can you tell if a dog has been fought.... I moved one 175 miles last week in a pickup and when we got there his face was bloody and cut up from trying to escape the kennel during the ride... Guarantee they ain't even tryin to solve case they jus gone call it dogfighting and drug related.




    I wish people would keep the dogs and the pot seperate tho.... Jus more ammo for authorities to use against us

    I am sorry but you are either in denial or do not know all of the information. The dogs were not well cared for and as has been reported by the Idaho Humane Society were in very poor condition and had untreated lacerations and broken bones. Some of the dogs were still bleeding from the recent fight. And, they were feeding dead dogs to the existing dogs. These people are not victims, the children and dogs are. I'm sorry but you need to do more research on this case, these people were undeniably involved with dog fighting. Please stop trying to mislead others about the sick nature of the individuals killed. mUBqC.AuSt.36.jpg

    I know for a fact those dogs where takin care of. I ve meant them and have been to there house about a year ago. when I was there the dogs were in great shape and health. there was no dog fight going on there. I find it funny that everybody that owns these dogs is now consider a dogfighter if there dogs arnt couch dogs. I do agree tho that drugs and dogs don't get along tho. they should of probable kelp there nose clean with that.

    Hey cock sucker, I knew the victim, and no they didn't feed dog meat to the dogs. There was 1 dog in the deep freeze because the dog died and they were waiting for the ground to soften to bury the dog. The dogs were in great shape, and I would feed anything I could from that yard. Yes when you have multiple dogs, you are bound to have kennel accidents from time to time. Another thing jerk off, the reporters need to research the case because there are holes all over it their story. Now get the fuck outta here before I research who you are and where you live and pay your bitch ass a visit.

    Very sad story indeed kids are left without their parents and all these assholes can think about is trying to build a case for dog fighting?! Wtf how about find out who killed these people and left these poor kids to grow up without their parents!

    I agree with Sadie here.I really feel for those kids losing both parents.Ok these people grew pot plants worth about $95,000.00 now my question is is that street value? Because if it is that number is inflated to sound like a big bust. It appears to me if this is the proof they have of a major drug dealer,they have a problem.It sounds like they was growing pot for their use.Now explain to me how someone makes a living as a dogfighter? It can't pay all that well if he was working odd jobs as a handyman.Now for the dogs ,did anyone see any of the pics ? I guess no one is going to come forward and claim the dogs.They would be charged right away. Now these are just my opinons on what little information I have read.

    the thing is they disrespected the family and their kids by claiming so much and not having shown any evidence of dog fighting or selling pot . they shouldn't worry about anything but finding the murdering of 3 humans . they can't even show any compassion . so lets forget about the things they claim and think of 3 nice people that won't see their kids because of some crazy person that needs to be caught .

    Thats my point they sound more worried about the pot plants and dog fighting(if it was going on) then finding the killer or killers.They have no proof of the other chargers they claim they did.But what is the point they can't charge dead people.I would think they would be more worried about a killer or killers that are running around lose.

    BOISE -- There is new information on the pit bulls taken from the scene of a triple homicide and alleged dog-fighting ring in eastern Idaho.

    Idaho Human Society Executive Director Jeff Rosenthal said his staff is spending a lot of one-on-one time with the dogs, who seem to be affectionate with people.

    Rosenthal also said that while they are familiar with the breed, but they are less familiar with the effects of dog fighting on an animal.

    Early next week, they are bringing in experts on dog fighting. These experts are from the same organization that was involved after the Michael Vick dog fighting case.

    BOISE -- The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is working with investigators with the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office in Utah on a triple homicide and served a search warrant at a Utah residence Thursday evening.

    Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad said no arrests were made. Investigators are continuing to contact potential witnesses and persons of interest. At this time, they are not saying whether any evidence connected to the homicides was found during the search.

    The bodies of 61-year-old Brent L. Christensen, 32-year-old Trent Jon Christensen and 27-year-old Yavette Chivon Carter were discovered Friday outside Holbrook, a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line. Investigators say the homicides occurred on Thursday, April 4.

    Semrad believes this was not a random killing, and that the victims likely knew the killer or killers. He also says robbery does not appear to be a motive in the slayings.

    A dogfighting and marijuana-growing operation was being run out of the rural ranch where the killings took place.

    Cash and 38 marijuana plants worth $95,000 were found in the home.

    An infant and 2-year-old child were unharmed.

    The sheriff says 64 pit bulls found at the property were used for fighting. The dogs were brought to Boise for care and could be put up for adoption at a later date. One of the dogs had to be euthanized due to health issues.

    All the dogs on that news video,are in great condition,,it say' there bringing in experts on dog-fighting from the m-vick case to evalueate the dogs..ya know what that means''''a-lot of very well looked after dogs ok..there can't be any doupt he looked after his animals...sad
