My 5 month old just out the of the blue is getting real aggressive over her food. It started with the other dogs but now even I can't touch her. Its mainly when I give her leg quarters

What exactly is she doing it's normal for them to show aggression over food with other dogs to solve that problem you feed separately now showing aggression to the hand that feeds them that's not some shit I will tolerate. Can you give us a little more info on what the dog is doing when you feed him or her leg quarters? What aggressive behavior is the dog showing?

I feed her the leg quarters in her cage. My gf has a toy poodle that walks by and she would growl and snap. Now if I come near the cage she does the same. I didn't mind it at 1st then I started thinking more in the future when she's bigger and she has daughter running around. I can post a video of it to show exactly if you like

Ok sounds like she is resource gaurding her food. Does she ever growl when you walk by the crate when there is no food in there? It's normal for these dogs to gaurd their food from other dogs if you can try and keep the other dog away completely from the other dog while it's eating don't even let the toy poodle in the same room while the other dog is eating in it's crate that will aggravate the dog because the dog can sense the other dog in the room hence the guarding of the food , Now to work on the dog growling at you when you walk by the crate. Has she ever growled at you while you were feeding her outside of the crate? Or is this only happening when the dog is eating inside the crate and you walk by her eating?

Yep listen, to what s-b is saying it is a natural thing for dog's,wolves,lions..to be protective over their food the way i would do it with new dog's is i would hold the feed bowl in my hand while they are eating from it..sometimes i would lift the bowl a-way from the dog...the thing with this kind of prob is if you have ignored it..when the dog was growling at you,it will be harder now to adress it..in the mean-time feed the dog on it's own, with jus your-self there..try to sort it out cause ya don't want any-body to get bit, when he eating..good luck.....

  7. There are theories on establishing Alpha-Dominance over your dog that you might want to try. There is a theory about spitting in your dogs food that I find intriguing. Basically, when a pack of wild Lions makes a kill, the Alpha Dominant Lead Male eats first. When, and only when he is done, the rest of the pack gets to feast on what's left. Therefore, the rest of the pack are forced to taste the saliva of the Alpha Male on their food. You are able to recreate this position of Dominance over your own animal by spitting on their food prior to giving it to them. Do this at every feeding, and the theory says that the dog will understand that the food is YOUR FOOD, not hers. She is not entitled to it, but you are ALLOWING her to have some.

Just some food for thought ;) (pun intended)

  10. If a dog is food aggressive when he is young does that mean he will be aggressive towards other animals when he matures even if there isn't food involved?

Listen, if I'm eating a steak and you keep walking by, I'm liable to growl at your ass too. You put her in a place (cage) in which has become her territory. You then gave her something precious (food) to eat in her cage. She then said to you that in this Jungle (her cage) she is King Kong over the bananas (food) and now she sense that timid feeling in you. Dogs can only bark or growl, well a few can sing but majority only bark or growl as communication. She probably like you been sitting there all this time and now that i got some grub you all in my space like u bout to take it back. take her out the cage maybe outside or something and feed her. I love to eat but if i ate in a phone booth, with other mofos breathing around it I'd be pissed too.

  12. Exactly what B8B said and don't feed her in the create till this issue is sorted , best of luck with her ....best to curb this behaviour while she's young
