Which do you think is better and why? I know Old Goat likes a gas-driven rig. But I have heard diesel is good in terms of torque and longevity. Diesel fuel is getting close to gasoline in terms of price.

  2. torque is what you want out of a truck. diesel makes it much more efficiently then gas. anything with 1200tq is never a bad thing.

hell yes I like gas driven . it's cleaner cheaper and I think the torque is the same . I would put my gas rig against a diesel anyday . and it has more power in the mud any day . get mud on the diesel tires and it can have a problem throughing the mud off the tires . a gas rig you can get the mud flying off easier .

Anything I want a truck for,I like diesel engines.

tell us why the diesel is better . and you never been to Europe . the air sucks because of the diesel engine . you can get gumbo mud on the tires and go to far in a diesel . you can't spin the tire good enough to get the think mud off and I use 4 wheel drive everyday .

More torgue, better fuel economy. For all I use a truck for, which is farm work and trailer pulling, diesel is better for me. If I wanted to go mudding and didn't care about buying fuel, gas is fine but I only drive a truck for work. But I on both gas and diesel trucks so it doesn't matter all that much but if I could just have one,it'd be diesel.

your right they get better mileage . the torgue I think it's only 15 lbs more for the tongue . but the diesel just doesn't move fast enough . and if you were in Europe you would see everyone likes them and how much dirtier the air is . and diesel is starting to cost to much . I go through all kinds of terrain and I've had them diesels scare all the deer and hogs around .

I've swapped diesel motors in plenty of jeeps and trucks for offroad trail and rock crawling use and haven't had an issue with the motor not being able to navigate me through spots. As gh said the fuel economy/mileage gains are very impressive as is the torque. Not to mention ability to convert to a bio diesel setup. Biggest gripe with some of the motors is the noise and rattle.

A turbo diesel powetrain with very minimal and cheap upgrades from stock will smoke ANY gas job truck, hooked up gas job trucks dont stand a chance! theyre faster than most sports cars.

I have 410 lbs from the tongue and it can do a lot . but you can't go checking hog traps with a diesel . the hogs will stop coming to the traps if you make to many trips by them . ya'll don't really understand how bad diesels are destroying the air . 1 trip to Europe and you would understand .

Yea but nobody is really talking about air quality... The issue is more fuel economy and ability to get the job done. Gas emissions are destroying the air too but nobody wants to be out there checking hog traps on a mountain bike.

Some of the newer gas trucks get pretty great fuel economy for having 400hp. I got 20+mpg in my toyota tundra.

Diesel is the only way to go unless all you're doing is hauling groceries, lol.

i agree with dutchy my 05 crew cab cummins has a 6 inch lift with 37 inch tires and a smarty programmer and it will beat most v8 cars out there and you can definately pull more then a gas truck. The 22-26 miles to the gallon is also a plus :)

I can pull 16,000 with my truck . I think diesels pull the same . and stock out of the factory diesels are to slow .

  17. From technical point of view diesels are more advanced than gasoline one's. They have better torque (due to fuel used) plus the trend is to be turbo diesel that contributes to increased torque and consumption efficiency. A second crucial fact is that diesel engines use stronger alloys cause combustion is through compression and not through sparks. Stronger alloys means longer engine life plus less engine service. So from technical point of view diesel engines are better than gasoline for truck use.
Environmentally, at least for Europe, since diesels have to comply with Euro4 the exhaust outcome is cleaner than the gasoline one. Diesel tend to use better catalyst and filters.

well I know in Europe that the air sucks from the diesels . so much for the compling with the euro4 haha .

Bone stock my cummins puts out 610ft lbs of torque. With a $900 programmer I'll smoke your gas powered truck, drag it backwards and get 21mpg out of a 7000lb 4door one ton 4wheel drive doing it.Emission wise? I'm not sure you if you know this or not,but a gas motor puts out carbon monoxide and a diesel does not.I was a gas motor man my whole life, now I only use them for racing. For a daily driver you can't beat a diesel.
