the vet told me that the dog gets the benefits of the egg whether its cooked or raw & we found that scrambling it makes the dog stink less. Leo stinks when he eats raw eggs as well. we do one every other day. he loves it!

  9. Eggs are very good for dogs. In fact, they say they are one of the most concentrated, valuable forms of protein that a dog can get, as long as they are cooked. Egg whites contain a protein which ties up the vitamin, "BIOTIN" (which affects hair, coat, nails, etc.) Raw egg whites bind to the biotin that a dog ingests and prevents it from being absorbed. Cooked eggs do not do this. Many people avoid feeding raw eggs for this reason. Some say the yolk contains more than enough biotin to "make up" for any that the egg white binds to; so feeding raw EGG "WHITES" alone is the problem. Raw WHOLE EGGS however are alright, within moderation. Boiling the egg destroys the biotion binding protein and kills off any salmonella, so the safest thing is to cook them before feeding them to your dogs, but I wouldn't flip out about feeding the occassional whole egg raw, just would not do it daily.

You see I have heard that by cooking the egg you are taking away some of the good aspects of it and there's really no point in feeding it unless it's raw. I'll have to discuss this when I get to work on Monday and see what they think. I'd never heard of the raw egg whites binding the biotin. It's very intresting.

My dog is also not gassy at all with his eggs. It's dry food that makes him stink. PEW!!

I have read that feeding RAW eggs depletes the vitamine E in dogs...that is unless you are doing something to balance it out (like giving vitemine e supplements or something of the likes...). But all in all...i think that they are ok in moderation, but i suggest doing some reading and finding out the truth behind it, because like everything else...what works for one doesn't always work for the other.I guess that is about what bulldogman was saying.

Well from what i have heard the first time i gave my dogs eggs. And this is from the man himself lol (Texasbulldogs). He told me to under boil them so just put the eggs in boiling watter for about 3 mins and then take out and feed with shell on there food.

CB (or Texasbulldog)...does this have anythign to do with what was previously said about either the depletion of vitamine e or the "biotin" issues?? Just trying to clear this up, thanks!

Raw eggs contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin. Biotin is a B vitamin not vitamin E! The albumen is the most biologically-available protein there is-albumen is best utilized soft-boiled.
