kennel run set up

Discussion in 'Products & Equipment' started by bajoquinto1, Mar 21, 2014.

  1. After giving it some thought between kennel or chain set up I decided to go with a kennel run. Im planning on building my kennel on my grass yard and had a couple questions. For upkeep, what flooring material works best? I know grass gets messy with rain and shit.. And what demensions are ideal for a bulldog run. (He will be spending most of the day in the kennel when im away at work). Also cover the top or make the fence higher.

    Thanks fellas

Make it as big as possible square footage wise. 6 ft fencing with a top

  3. Thanks rallyracer. Regarding flooring I noticed a lot yards have gravel type material around the chain setup. Would that work better than decking for cleaning?

Ive seen hog/cattle panels used as a dig preventative.cement and pavers are nice but expensive and hard to keep clean and its hard on the dogs joints.deck as flooring is nice also ,but also hard to keep clean,to build a good kennel can cost thousands each dog.most chain link is thin, so you have to buy thicker gauge chain link,if not a welded steel magnum style panel often referred to as a goriila cage for its durability.you need some type of roofing which hog/cattle pannels are the also the cheapest most effective way of keeping your dog contained.a real truss style roof is expensive and if your not handy youll have to hire someone to frame it and aplpply some type of weather resistant roofing material.$$$ add cement floor with a drain or slope drain or evan pavers and it gets more spendy.dont forget a double wall insulated house on the out side of the kennel with lags
fastening it securly to the kennel.the cheapest good wellded steel kennel i found was $500 for a 1o'x10',$200 for cattle panels for the floor and roof plus $50 for a shade cover.railroad ties work
for a dig deterent (if its not too sandy)lol.
As bad as chains seem the benifits out wiegh the negative.from effectiveness to total sq. Foot.
Just feeding them is more time consuming and more chances of accidents, as well as individual time.
