I agree with TDK. Courtesy is after it's over. If a game pick up no need to courtesy. Slow scratches, give the courtesy. Either way, if I courtesy, give or take, it comes with another bet. We know who won. The courtesy is just to see if the dog will scratch. If they want to bet I'm in, if not I'm out. IMO free courtesy scratches are for rolls and tests. Game time is game time. If we came to play, it ain't free.

.....many a time, years back a loser who missed the count,,,would for the hell of it be tryed again after a few mins,,and off he/she go's ...across,might plod across or might go like a train...why..who knows,,needed a few min's to cool.???(may-be even different conditioning).??..sometimes people are to quick to judge,,an maybe pass a good dog to quick????..thats why remember dog's don't/can't count...but as said a courtesy is what it is,,whiter ya want to do it or not...but theres loads of reasons why ya will or won't,an people will say different things if ya don't want too...so don't let it bother ya to much...???

Sometimes it means the difference to some people. What I mean is I'd rather breed a 2hr loser that is still game enough to scratch after being picked up due to the handlers better judgment, than a 20min winner sometimes. All in how you look at it. Just my opinion. Not debating it, or open to flaming.

Dead game (heart) may be what you need, more so than tenaciousness in your breeding program at that moment in time. jmo

Since you directly replied back to me I will reply back to you accordingly.

Yes you are totally lost on Cajun Rules and what the purpose of the Rules/Show is all about. BUT I wont explain or teach it to you as that's not my responsibility, its your responsibility to find out for your self.

Cajun rules IS WIDELY ACCEPTED by MANY of the OLD TIMERS that FOLLOWED and USED those rules through out history with a few minor modifications because those rules are the most FAIREST and Solid set of rules to date.

If you go back and reread my post I never said you cant add to them or question them. I even said I wouldnt call it perfect but more so a SOLID set of rules. BUT in order for one to BETTER or PERFECT Cajun rules one must FULLY COMPREHEND Cajun Rules in order to do so in the first place its just common logic. If your already doing something wrong due to you NOT being able to comprehend something how can you add to it to make it BETTER??? The answer is simple,"YOU CAN'T" instead your just only going to make it WORSE.

My advice to you Bmf bt is to go back and RE LEARN about Cajun Rules (through what ever resources is available to you) and once you fully comprehend and understand it too the fullest only then will you be able to add to it and make it better.

As per The Cajun Rules in the case of an out of holds count a dog must scratch to win. By making a dog scratch to win in any senario not just an out of hold it would only be bettering the breed.

I was reading but confused, went from "Courtesy," "Scratch to Win" and now it appears someone is talking about "scratch to continue" lol.. I was taught never to let nobody courtesy into mine. If I won don't courtesy to embarass my opponent, if i lose don't let them courtesy to embarass you. Now i don't mind a tail scratch just to see if yours is coming but when it's over it's over... I would never let nobody scratch to continue, if you're on bottom you are staying there if I'm on top your only option is to wait for handle or to pick up.. I'm also not a big fan of scratch to win, if yours stand on it's turn you lost, if yours checks out you lost.

A courtesy scratch to me has always been something you ask for if you wanna pick your hound up. You see your dog is outclassed but you want to see if it has the grit to go back across. Scratch to win is complete opposite

I've never seen a winner courtesy scratch back into the loser. Only a loser being scratched into winner to see of he still wants it. I've seen scratch to win or scratch to continue called for deeper into a match when the action starts to lag

Another good answer. I do not understand how a winning dog would have to scratch back to the losing hog to prove he won after he "won" is that two wins? Also what if the winner does not scratch is that a loss? or a draw, or a double draw loss? Seems something to complain about after a loss or a reason to hedge a bet already made, but if agreed upon prior to the show then that is what it is. I can understand a side bet after the fact to see if the winner would go, but why set yourself up for what could be an embarrassment.

I've never seen the winner ask to courtesy into loser. I've seen someone losing ask for "scratch to win" in a case where they were going to pick up and was hoping that the other hound wouldn't come across.

courtesy is what it is,,if you lost ya might still have that faith in your dog knowing he will still scratch but was out-classed in other departments,,,some went so close+hard that those around the track begin to wonder would either still scratch....so someone might call a bet on the winner to see if he will or won't...but it's still up to the owner if they want to or not...and leave people guessing........lol..........
