Hi guys any idea how to handle this?

Spring has just started and they are all over the place even biting people it’s that bad – we have started adding salt to the ground and this seems to help a bit but are there any other things we can do? Thinking of using sulpha as well, I have used this before but on a urban yard where as this problem is on farm land.

    Any help will do thanks

I would start eating more garlic! It helps. Also, give your dogs Ivomec (Ivermectin), it's a cattle wormer you can buy at most feed stores. It treats internal and external parasites. I give it orally 1cc per 100 pounds every 3 weeks (so scale that down to your dogs weight). I have always used this on my bulldogs, however... I would not give it to Collies or German Shepherds! It will most likely kill them because of a mutation in their MDR1 gene. It keeps the fleas at bay down here in south Alabama, and we are having a 25 year record high for flies, fleas, and ticks because of our last abnormal winter. I always salt my chain spots in the end of winter before the beginning of spring. I also spray my yard with bleach monthly. I hope this helps!

Thanks, I am aware of Ivermectin but didn*t know that it helps to keep the fleas at bay * the salting seems to be working and the region of the country hasn*t the highest population of ticks which we keep at bay but the fleas man that is a fucking issue. Will try the ivermectin and garlic as well, the salting works and will increase, do you use regular table salt? We have used pool salt before and that works and is pretty reasonably priced as well.

    Again thank you

I buy 50lb bags at the feed store, not sure what kind it is but it helps. Fleas are bad this year. Between using salt and watering the areas you salted it kills the flea and worm larva. Some of the others will chime in soon with more remedies.

Bayer "Tree and Shrub" will knock an infestation down to a manageable level just by using the same way as one would use flea drops......... Bayer "Complete" in a pressure sprayer for chain spots and dog houses works well..........It won't completely kill your whole flea problem but will reduce it enough to live with.

ivomec will not help your flea problem , its used for heart worm protection.infestation is hard to deal with and what ever spray you choose you will need to do twice and maybe 3 times..You will have to spray again 2 weeks after your first spray and if u think u need to again wait 2 more weeks and spray again..Termidor may be a good solution for you , its actually for termites but kills the fuck out.of fleas..or you can do the salt thing.U can order termidor online if u go that route.

    Ivomec treats :
gastrointestinal roundworms (including inhibited Ostertagia osteragi
    lung worms
    grubs
sucking lice (very similar to fleas)
    heart worms
    and mange mites

It also keeps fleas down on my dogs.

Read the box it comes in, and do a little research.

Trust me it is no good.for fleas...And it isn't good as a a broad spectrum worked .And shaman that's the other thing u will need to do after u get fleas under control you should storm them really good..Again ivomec is for protection against heart worms and that's about all its good for.

And nute it is u who lack knowledge if you think ivomec will kill a flea infestation..I dont give a fuck what the box says that it comes in ..It is no good for FLEAS period.....infestation or no infestation. Its no good for fleas..and not even a good broad spectrum wormer...Hopefully u learned something today that will better help your dogs.

I would also suggest Ivory dish soap to kill the fleas on the dogs, but I'm sure that will get flamed too.

Yea direct contact with dish soap will kill a flea but I don't like to bathe a dog with dish soap..And if you use it as a spray you won't get but so many of them so no I wouldn't suggest dish soap.Thier are more effective methods available.

I've always used Dawn..........Dish soap is what every bulldogger I've ever known uses.........Not just for fleas either, but general cleaning of the animal, wounds ect.

Dawn Or Ivory will kill a flea infestation ! look at all the threads on this site and see how many people have suggested dish soap to kill a flea infestation .I wish the fuck you were right ,,but it just isn't so.

I don't think anyone is saying that dish soap stops an infestation, but dish soap will kill all the fleas on a dog if washed thoroughly with it.

And I think every single one of us know this ! but this was not the question ? the OP did say he had a flea infestation ! so the fact that it will kill every single flea on a dog doesn't matter . Because guess what he will have the same amount on his dogs again the next day because it has no preventive powers . I am trying to advise him how to kill a infestation .Did u know that dawn and water will kill wasp also ?

I did know that shooting a wasp nest at 20 yards with a .270 makes the whole thing go bye bye.... lol
