    Re: Preventing Food Agression

A lot of times my dogs will instinctively try to nip on accident because of the pain like sticking your hand in front of the belt when your daddy beats you so I have to close my hand around their muzzle when I pinch their ear, but be really careful not to bruise his airways AT ALL, if you bruise them and cause swelling it is not a good thing especially there. Just loosely hold their mouth so he can't open his jaws, he'll try to move his head back so loop your fingers around the bottom of his jaw and hook him so he can't leave...

Get rid of the pup asap. You can curb the behavior but if you have a wife and will b having children do not risk it. I had a male that showed this behavior and I could control it to a point but would continued to show itself. That was with just me and my father, forget it if someone else tried to feed him or take a bone away. Kids get into everything, they do not know about dog behavior, it is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't know of a single dog on the face of the planet that any man anywhere on this planet would let his kid around while it's eating. I was raised with cocker spaniels and my dad wouldn't let me pet my own cocker spaniel in the back yard after I fed it. He told me to feed it and leave immediately and let her eat. I thought to myself, what, a girl dog, let her eat... but he was right, dogs are dogs. Pomeranian have killed babies in cribs. You don't let ANY dog around ANY kid unsupervised, you don't BAN pitbulls from your life...

Most overfed dogs are content and dont show agreesion if the owner can train them right...
Fat dogs are less active and agressive but some are territorial and greedy...
A friend noticed feeding his dogs high end kibble made his dogs more active, agrresive and destructive in the house so he would pick them up some cheeseburgers to put them to bed...
The more a athlete the dog is the more fat it will need to burn and if they are not content they are hungery and a hungry dog is a grumpy dog that will eventually scavange and hunt for food if no human interaction...
Unless properly trained food agreesion is fairly normal, most people cant properly train the agression out of these animals...CONTACT A PROFESSIONAL or seprate the dogs when you feed...

Hey Hey Shameless, long time no speak, how U doing?

As for this topic what I do to deter food aggression is a secret but I will tell you it involves peanut butter, chunky is aight but smooth creamy one sticks better LMAOROTF.

Saiy... sounds like it's more likely to increase it when you bring peanut butter in the mix. ;)I'm doing just fine thanks. Was just peeking in and saw this craziness. *shakes head* yourself?

wow a lot of mis-information here, I mean I am a new member so I dont know who is being serious and who is being a smart ass but seriously wow. Too much dog whisperer and too many movies, The soundest advice I seen in this thread was to re-home the dog if you can't control it and especially with a child.

I got a bitch who was food agressive toward me as a pup but a couple simple corrections changed that..honestly I find it should be very easy to make a non human agreasive breed not wanna bite a person during feeding time..as of for agressive toward other dogs during feeding time-I believe they shouldn't be be in reach of one and other during feeding.thats a disaster waiting to happen..and if they can eat out the same bowl it might be time to do some culling lol

Last night I had to show my pup that I was alpha male. He was given a bone and started growling at me when I walked near him. I went to the kitchen and got some pot holder mitts then approached him while inching my hand toward the bone and he snapped at me. I grabbed him by the neck and flipped him over on his back while I growled at him. He yelped and became very scared, in fact he pee'd everywhere. I then walked him over to the back yard door and told him "no" as I guided him outside. He was left outside for 5 minutes then came back in and was very apologetic to me...hanging his head down as he licked my leg. I then showed him affection. I gave him the bone back and then inched my hand toward the bone and he put his head down and looked away. Seemed to have worked, at least for last night. Guess we'll see if this sticks.

Not sure how this thread got derailed but I only have one dog so he's not fed around other dogs.

The alpha male theory was disproved a few decades ago.

    Dont tell the peanutbutter secret...
Reminds of the mentor that said nothing stops a dogfight like a jar of peanut butter and a finger...
So the youngman returns and said the peanut butter didnt work ...
Did you try your finger & how did you get bit??? the mentor asked...
Like everything Ive learned from you, I DID TEN FOLD...
Dont forget the milk is the key to the peanuttbutter jammm strategy...

If u can't handle a 12 week old pup u need to trade it for a cat. . Grow a pair and show the pup who's the boss. Hopefully u will learn how to be the boss before u have kids.

yea right.... putting a a fighting dog on his back to submid him . yes thats real smart!!. punising him bij giving him a ""controled"" beating wil set him straight,, boom done finished. done it many many times!!. no submissif on his back behavier is needed... Earl Tudors wife would walk around with a hammer for crying oud loud!. and would beat them when they showed food en human agression. im pretty sure nobody lissend to Earl Tudor as wel.....

If you knew how it sounds when somebody comes on acting scared towards a little puppy, I think you'd understand why he says that. It sounds pretty crazy. I had those same thoughts just kept them to myself.

People just panick too easily over nothing. He just a pup they like to grab anything. They don't know at that age what they suppose to bite and not bite just teach him no and redirect him.Give him things he can bite.
