When did APBT become "dangerous"?

So, I recently bought a collection of the AGDT and was reading an article about banning dogs in Dallas and other cities in Texas. Being a youngster, I honestly didn't know BSL was that big of a thing in the 80s.

Now, I'm still a greenie to the breed, and I'm still getting over all the brainwashing caused from the HSUS, but from what I've been learning so far, this breed didn't become "dangerous" until after the outlawing of dogfights. One moment this breed is the pride of the American people, the next moment it's a monster to be feared.

    So my questions are:
Why would the outlawing of dogfighting suddenly cause a rise in dangerous pit bulls? Did some dogmen just give away their dogs to random people once the sport became illegal?

Now that I think about it, this wouldn't happen to be the time the HSUS decided to start spreading myths about the sport, would it? Did the rise of "dangerous" pit bulls stem from thugs who believe in "bait dogs"?

I'm curious to know more from the experienced members on here, especially since Google hasn't been too helpful (no surprise there). It seems really random that there's just an explosion of "pit bull" attacks on humans in the 80s, and people still freak out about the breed today.

only solution is to refuce the size of apbt to a 18 lbs. dog maximum

for the apbt to survive it must evolve/change in.size

And only let people breed all white dogs so they can have "DANGER" painted on their sides (in florescent orange) when they are out in public !!!

True, that's what I see people say around a lot. The magazine does make note of someone starting an "American Bulldog Kennel Club" to get the apbt into the public eye in a good way, and also push the breed more towards weight pull. Take the word "pit" out of pit bull. Now we have bullies, but they're not exactly 18 lb dogs, lol

Since the article I was reading compared the apbt to guns, guess this would make them the equivalent to orange-tipped airsofts :P

WHY do show people feel it is their sworn duty to "SAVE" a breed by breeding out of it the original intended purpose of the breed ??? You have your AKC Amstaffs, your Staffordshire Bull Terriers, your UKC American PitBull Terriers and those oh so lovely Bullies --- PLEASE GO PLAY WITH THEM !!! And leave the Game Bred Pit Bull Terriers alone !!! No need to change the size, weight, color, hair length, or anything else about them !
" Take the word "pit" out of pit bull. Now we have bullies " If you have a lot of dumb sh!tz and you take out the word dumb, you still have a lot of sh!tz !!! But a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet.

I know where I live (in Georgia) you'd be hard pressed to watch television for an hour without seeing a HSUS commercial at least twice. And the commercials show "poor depraved animals" that spend their whole lives on chains only taken off to be bred or fought. Most of the bulldogs they show look pretty well fed to me. Yes they are chained and yes they're out side in the snow but it also shows either barrels or dog houses so I see no wrong. Now they do show some dogs that are starving but only to pull on the heart strings of these liberal morons. They neglect to mention these bulldogs they take in most of them get put to sleep because they are deemed "dangerous" all the HSUS cares about helping is themselves! They are only after that all mighty dollar! Its just sickening

The breed became dangerous the moment they became popular.
