DIY Semen collection and storage

Hello guys ime wondering if it's possible to collect and store Seman long term at home so no vets and Semen banks are needed.. don't no about the USA but over these ways it's quiet expensive wondering whuld be possible to buy the equipment from America and do at home my google searches come back pretty fruitless And I don't even no if it's possible I've see the short term Seman chillers n stuff but looking for long term 10 years+ Any info whuld be great

I got one question do you look him in the eyes while your collecting .

I would assume expensive since you need a cryogenic freezer and a way to tell the sperm you just red rocketed out your dog is good microscopes and what not are needed

 

ied never be able to look at him the same again lol I will look up the freezer you mentioned there's kits to draw the Seman and store short term for transport available online so it can't be to hard to store long term maybe a little expensive but I should imagine you chuld help a few people out and save them some money also I don't no enough about it at the moment thought ied ask on here as the Americans seem way more advanced with stuff like this than on are side of the pond

 

It's not the funnest thing to do, collect from your male. They just look at you like this shit don't seem right and afterwards you both refuse to make eye contact, awkward lol. Yes you can get the equipment and store it yourself. It's not a cheap date though. Garner does it, shortime kennels used to as well along with a slew of others.

 

It is possible if you are willing to put in the work. The start up cost of storing your own frozen semen can be pretty expensive due to the equipment needed like the storage container and liquid nitrogen etc. and not to mention your TIME because you will have to do all the work involved. Most people don't want to deal with all that hassle/work involved and would rather pay someone else to do it.

You ever let someone who isn't into dogs at all know you do that and they think your the worst person in the world. There's vets that will collect for you and tell u how good thesperm is I took a male to a Dr butchko in rubidoux Cali it cost me 90 if I remember correctly but no AI or storage... just extract and read but the male had no sperm he was too old around 12 or 13 at the time so 90 down the drain but I felt that at least he could bust one before he died lol

 

I agree, if one doesnt have the equipment to check fertility, its best to take your dog to the vet for a sperm count because you don't want to freeze and store semen that is not viable LOL.

 

Its ironic that a lot of people get bent out of shape when animals do A.I. but when two lesbos do A.I. no one says anything why? LMAO.

Unless you plan on storing a bunch of dogs and straws, you're just wasting a good chunk of change (and the money flow into it doesn't stop.)

 

Whuldent really be for a good chunk of dogs just the 1 so there no fear of losing him while he working suppose I will have to get it take and stored by the vet and pay out thanks for comments guys I checked them fridges out to very expensive then the liquid nitrogen whuld also be a problem in my country

1)Make sure he's worthy of collection
2)Make sure the specimen is viable
3)Research proper techniques (mistakes are costly)
4)Remember as stated priorly, make sure your collectings are worth it. Besides the initial uptake there will be regular maintenance fees as well. There's going to be a link in your pm's, should help with what you need.

Wicked the price of collection was a deal the ICSB charges I believe $240 for that service and it doesn't include storage. Which IMO only an idiot would pay since collection and storage for a yr is $325 plus tax.

 

325 a year doesn't seem really too bad it's like having your favorite dog but you never feed it I'm sure there's cheaper cause to store a baby umbilical cord fluid ((not sure the name I ate a korova bar ))) maybe cord blood bank either way it's 129 a year look up dr butchko in rubidoux Cali and call maybe the price changed cause this was a few years ago but. maybe they know a place kind of thing sorta point you in the right direction they deal in a lot of Bulldogs so AI is there thing

A friend of mine had a vet come to collect it they was doing it in the front of the house ther was a vet with a rubber glove on arousing the dog and my friend holding the dog only for the postman to walk up the garden to deliver the mail and stumble upon them lol

 

Another thing needed is an generator in the event that the power is disrupted which can happen for extended periods of time.
