Benefits of Coconut Oil For Dogs The Dogington Post

    Anyone else use this?.
Came across this today while surfing the net. I use it both as a lotion on my dogs and in their feed. Makes them look like shinny new pennies. Especially if you have black dogs. I love how it makes both their skin and fur soft. Didn't realize how many other benefits it also has until recently.
I have 2 girls here that one or the other, ( Sometimes both at the same time) has issues with food related skin allergies. Don't matter what I feed them, eventually they seem to develop an allergy to it and it immediately dulls their fur, they scratch and dig constantly to the point of fur loss and even open sores from the picking at a single spot. I started using this stuff and it makes them look brand new in about 2 weeks. One dog, M.I.A., gets so bad so quick that she can loose 25% of her hair in about a weeks time. I started using this stuff on her a while ago and ALL of her fur grows back, is healthy looking and the scratching stops. I think I like it better than nu-stock as I can put it on a house dog and they don't have a greasy layer on their fur that ends up on my carpets, furniture etc. If you've never tried it, give it a go. It's very cheap so nothing to really loose if you have dogs that occasionally develop skin and fur issues.

    Tablespoon per 30lbs.
    Teaspoon per 10lbs.

I do it every other day or so. I rub them down with it the same day I feed it to keep a normal type schedule with it. Coconut oil and ACV are the only things I typically put into their feed. I'll usually give the ACV on the days I don't give the coconut oil.

Sounds like A good topical rub down oil. Never tried it, always used lanolin, I'll give it A whirle!

This was the first winter I used it on paw pads and ears. It worked just as good if not better than vasoline that I normally use in the winter time on those areas that are sensitive to the cold.. None of their ears chafed this year, pads stayed good too. Not nearly as messy as when I was using the vasoline.

I always put a bit of coco oil in with some yogurt. ACV is also a part of my arsenal LOL.

Olive oil here; similar health benefits I would presume as the coconut derivative. The fortunate beasts get the spendy Greek blend I use for cooking. Also a little fresh avocado when in season.

Coconut oil is really good for the coat, skin allergies and regrowing hair (Don't know if it works on humans LOL). It's also a good fat supplement for those who live up north and deal the cold weather. I also use Flax seed oil which is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acid. If your looking for a bulk supplier check these guys out. I been using them for a long time. (I use to drive there and pick it up before I left the North for good) Gallons to barrels they got it!

I also use Bragg's Organic raw-unfiltered ACV w/the Mother and local raw honey for both the dogs and myself for seasonal allergies. It works great.

a friend in sc that has catchdogs and utilizes them any given chance,,,(whats up BUSH???)
speaks well of this product,,, he first uses tea tree oil for after the wounds are kept clean and start to heel,,,
he said he used to use nu stock but has had better results with this product as it has both tea tree and coconut oil,,,
but he said when its healed he uses nu stock for the sulfer to open the hair follicles...
He has twenty years experience in the thickets and his advice seems sound enough to me...

Besides that inside out coconut is great for you,,, one of the most soluble sources of fat and a lot of health fanatics use it as their main source of fat and YES those who practice KETOSIS love it...

Its very wise to use coconut oil with a low fat protein achieve the bodies potential...

Those two things there are old remedies that really help with fleas, ticks insects and over all health benefits. Years ago I had a rancher that used ACV on his horses and hunting dogs and he introduced me to using that back in the early 80's and still do to this day Coconut oil I just strated to use a while back and I like what I see with it.
    Good advice AGK

I always use it in the dogs feed and like the results. I'm just not sure how you guys use it topically without the dog just licking it off of himself/herself.

Mine don't really lick at it very much at all. If you rub it in good I don't think it will much matter if they lick at it or not. Wont harm them and it's absorbed very rapidly.

I use it mainly to rub on raw patches of skin which my dog gets easily. Good stuff really.

That's why I have used lanolin, A natural oil from sheep. It really helps insulate in the damp cold. I'm fix'n to dig into coconut oil I've heard of it being used before! Back years ago we used turpentine and vasaline to toughen the pads and keep them supple on the road! I've heard a lot of good things about coconut oil, I will check it out! Thanx for the tip!
