I had been hearing that for years and people were saying that virgil's ped really wasn't that impressive so why hang those papers on him.

I suspect that the original pedigree is right. If the owner was going to make up a pedigree he could make one that would be much more impressive than the Scratch n Sniff to Molly Sue pedigree. Regardless Virgil was apparently a good dog and he produced well.

It's a little like the Buck pedigree. In that one, Buck was originally a mostly Maloney dog, after he did well his breeder suddenly remembered he was a Bolio dog. I believe the first pedigree (Maloney) was the correct one there too. How could a guy who breeds that many dogs remember a particular puppy and remember that he sent the new owner the wrong pedigree years before? Ridiculous.

John patterson and tag shiley are very honest fellows.

Breeders had no motive to hang paper...

This always happens when a famous dog emerges.... every bad thing u think of is said by the haters and the coat tail riders.[/QUOTE]

    Good Post ....

very well said...i have said it before the only way to really know how a dog is bred is to win six or seven and then produce a bunch of champions...then after all that there is always "someone" who knows the 'real' pedigree...never fails....

If I'm not mistaken didn't Gambler do a DNA test to a panther dog people swore was V sister and it came back and proved they weren't? Not 100% sure but I remember it taking place some years ago. Shit if it was a lie to be made he would of been a Panther dog, he could of sold pups for $2500 easy then.

And the flea market story is false, that was added by Jack. If I'm not mistaken he was being sold in classifieds of a newspaper or something like that. So they called it a flea market. Just like when they say a dog was found or given to them, it meant stolen.

there's a lot of colorful folks around these dogs. but the truth shouldn't get in the way of a good story.

i dont think its so easy to refute some stories simply because the further back in time you go the less common the dogs were so the chances of pickn up a decent to good dog from an odd place such as a flea market were higher than now and even now while reading the paper i may peruse the classifieds and along with the $75 "coby" pups i see a few listings of adba registered dogs from reputable bloodlines... Its a crap shoot... We as reasonable ppl just like to stack the deck as much as possible in our favor if we can so we make the "smart" decision and try to get what dogs from ppl n places you can verify.

So many dogs not bred like the ped says. To this very day, many are yelling blood that wasn't bred according to the Ped....like Eli.

Older post but so very true. No need for the truth to mess up a good story. LOL
