Last one is nice.

I've done some dumb shit in my day, even for the right reasons, but never did I chase a guy wielding my skateboard when he had an AR-15.

But, there is dedication and then there is dedication.

This is sort of old school when you can find the humor it a really contentious topic. I believe humor is everywhere, maybe even more so than beauty, as it is in the eye of the beholder.

Big picture. Not so funny. The little picture of chasing a guy with a skateboard when he has an AR-15 and then not seeing the humor in that picture is new school. So many get offended too quickly, butt-hurt, panties in a wad, however things are described.

For me, funny is just funny.

I will babble (as normal). My mom is a bible belt Baptist and has as much Christian faith in her little pinky as most do in their entire body. My Pops on the other hand was a give them all he had for 40-50 hours a week, make sure he had a side hustle to supplement income, but was a hard drinker otherwise. His brother the same. My mom was really close to her cousin, Chubby, as they were raised like siblings in a close-knit family. Chubby was into drugs pretty hard and had some mental issues you just didn't talk about in the late 70's early 80's. Chubby decided to end his life and stepped in front of an oncoming train.

My mom was devastated. My Pops and his brother had taken on a side job pulling/rebuilding/installing the engine in an old service truck. They were in the yard working and my Mom walked out to let us know she was going to sit with the family.

In the distance the afternoon train sounded its whistle, and it could be heard for miles.

My uncle said, "Here comes Chubby". He laughed, I laughed and my Pops wanted to laugh but he did the "pops" thing and slapped behind the head for laughing. My Mom cried and left and then they laughed all over again. Kind of a double standard but the lesson I guess was there is a time and place for everything.

In August that will be forty years ago, and it is still the first thing I think of when I hear a train whistle.

It is in the eye of the beholder.

That scenario/circle of hard times is a pretty good quote. I like that. It rings so true.

I'm the same.

Another funny. One of the engineers at my plant is a gay woman. She served in the Navy as a Rescue Corpsman on a chopper with a marine battallion, so in Afghanistan she seen some shit. Much respect to her for that plus she is a great engineer. Supper smart. I could care less about how she pursues life. She has that military sense of humor as well.

They were planning a paint ball trip, and she was planning to go all out on this other engineer as she said, "I have more disposable income to win this war". I told her she could borrow one of my son's super-duper go-get'em paint ball gun. I was telling her how to pull the trigger using two fingers one after another vs. using just one finger to get the most paint balls down range.

Right in front of everyone at our morning meeting she said, "I know, I have been a big fan of the two-finger over the one finger method for a long time". It got me, caught me off guard, but it was frikkin' funny. An hour later she was in HR and they were asking her to apologize to the group.

I was like, WTF? Really?.

 

That's cool.

My job use to be like that. It was a chemical plant and although it still is over the years we have dressed it up to call it a pharmaceutical plant. We have brought in tons of new people and the culture has changed. Once upon a time it was more like a construction site but today, not so much.

With that, people's feelings and opinions are often pampered.

I live in what use to a be a rather small rural town in NC. Up until the 90's it had a solid economy as there were tons of manufacturing and warehouse jobs. From as early as 1900 people were coming off the farms and moving to town for the jobs in the cotton mill. I grew up in the cookie cutter- mill provided shotgun houses of the south. Our neighborhood was in town but everyone on our road was pretty much fresh off the farm.

It was living a country life inside town. The Ross Perot warned the Clinton administration about NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Act. Our cotton and hosiery mills shutdown, some went to Mexico and the rest imported from Asia. Our unemployment rate was twice the national average. The crack explosion of the late 80's early 90's spread thru our area like a tidal wave. Crime went form stealing and breaking and entering to violent crime.

It was one stretch where the national news was doing murders by capita and the Detroit's and LA's and DC's and NY's always seemed to be at the top of the list. We had a stretch of murders/unsolved murders when the "gangs" started to define and defend territory. This list popped up once on the news and our town was right there with the big boys. Everyone immediately said, "I think they meant Henderson, Nevada due to it being "out there with Las Vegas". (Rural town geography).

The bad and the good is everywhere with only maybe the accents changing. LOL
