DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —Neighbors are vowing to help catch whoever killed a pit bull found hanging from a DeKalb County bridge.

A nearby fence is covered in stuffed animals for two reasons. The community wants to make everyone aware of what happened there in May, and wants to send a message to the person they think did it and is still out there.

Felicia Clark said she walks along Kelly Lake Road with her 9-year-old daughter all the time and each time she is reminded of the young pit bull's brutal death.

“I walk past here every day and it's sad,” Clark said.

Reward fliers and stuffed animals now line the fence nearly two months after the pit bull was found dangling from the bridge.

“If someone could do this to a dog, they could do this to anybody else,” Clark said.

Earlier in the day, about 30 volunteers put up the stuffed animals as a memorial to the pit bull that was only about a year old.

DeKalb County police found the dog chained to the bridge May 20.

A woman and her 2-year-old son first made the gruesome discovery while walking to day care.

Some neighbors told Channel 2 Action News off-camera they think the person who killed the dog lives in the neighborhood and tore down old reward fliers.

“It's about a vicious killer that's out here somewhere, that keeps ripping down our signs so they’re not caught,” Falbert said.

Falbert said she will keep speaking to neighbors who have been too afraid of retaliation to speak up.

“They’re so scared that they will give up $10,000,” Falbert said.

Even without the reward, the memorial is enough for Clark to be more vigilant on her daily walks.

“I know he's going to get caught; he or she, of course,” Clark said.
