the person said it worked for some kind of worm and i rather
go with what works than what the drug companies want to sell

im sure you know they push the latest stuff to make the money
from the research to make it .......ie .....viagra is new
it cost lots of money ...but ..could an older medicine or herb work
    the same way.....

its all about options ....and thinking outside the box

Ivomec is for heartworms. Panacur is your dewormer for intestinal worms. Although people use Ivomce (Ivermectin) for intestinal worms, it is not effective plus the dosage used is higher than I would recommend.

Here is the actual amount of Ivomec actually needed for the prevention of heartworms. So for all those that pm’ed me asking for the information, here it is……

    The proven dosages are:
    Heartworm prevention - 0.003-0.0066 mg/lb
    Roundworm - 0.023-0.09 mg/lb
    Hookworm - 0.023 mg/lb
Microfilaricide - 0.023-0.09 mg/lb single dose (Let your veterinary treat!)

The proven dosage for a 51-100lbs dog 272mcg. This is the amount of Ivomec in Heartgard (Brown Tablets).
Ivomec 1% solution contains 10,000 mcg (micrograms), which Ivomec delivers in 1mL (cc). A dog only needs 3 mcg of Ivomec, per pound of body weight per month to keep them heartworm free!

So - if 1 cc of Ivomec contains 10,000 mcg, we can bring that number down by mixing it with propylene glycol (don‘t use water, oils, milk, etc. the Ivomec won‘t mixed correctly. So you‘ll never know the amount of Ivomec you‘re actually giving). Which actually works as a carrier agent for the Ivomec. 9 parts - propylene glycol to 1 part Ivomec. That will deliver 1,000 mcg of Ivomec per 1 cc. Then, you only give (orally) 0.1 cc of the mixed Ivomec per 30 lbs of body weight.

***If buying already mixed (Ivermecting to propylene glycol), use a medicine dropper/ear dropper & it's 1 drop per 10lbs IF properly mixed. I suggest heartworm testing once a year regardless of if on heartworm prevention year-round. If you're underdosing, it's best to learn asap.

Takes care of everything but Tape worms.

1/10th cc, or .10 cc per 10 lbs of body wt.

1% generic, don't get the "plus"

I will answer it as I did last time. lol

    .1 cc/ml per 10 pounds of dog
that is one tenth of a cc/ml per ten pounds of dog so if your dog weighs 45 pounds it is .45 cc/ml.
Yes if given at this dose it will be a preventative for heart worms and most every worm, parasite and mite known to man. However Mange and tape worms require higher doses and a schedule. I have out lined that process and schedule in prior theads also. This is the most cost effective and chemical effective way of preventative and treating. However I warn you to see a vet first to make sure your dog is heart worm negative first. Otherwise you can kill the dog if you rid the worms too fast and leave leaks in the heart. It is very important to have this test done first prior to using Ivamectin or any other form of wormer that doesn't just stay in the digestive track such as Ivamectin. As always though this is your call. And I am only giving you information not writing you an RX to treat your dog. Use at your own risk if not seeking the care of a lisensed vetrinarian.

Mia, I must of missed it, but in an old thread I asked what your opinion on Zimectrin Gold was? Ivermectin/praz paste. I'll pull up the specifics again if need be. From my (limited) understanding, in a healthy dog, this should prevent any infestation, of any and all worms?

  9. like it very much i will check with my vet

shes open alot to alternatives and options

This is worth repeating! & loudly at that!

Also, newbie, heartworm meds & dewormers are given on a monthly basis. It's easiest to do it on the first or last day of the month.

I use Zymectrin Gold, in a paste form. the handle has 50# incramental notches on it, and I give to body weight. Wipe the paste off with the end of my finger, and wipe it on the roof of their mouth and they'll suck it down. It is a heartworm preventative, and deals with tape worms, both types.
I use pyrantel for other worms, it is a one dose Johnny, and I like to keep it simple. I use it only at sign of infestation or once every 4 months as preventative, the Zymec gold I give once every 30 days. I have asked several vets and lay people in the field, and was told that ivermec by itself does nothing for tapes, and that is why I use what I do. Also, many of my dogs have spit some of the oral liquid out, but with the paste they get it all, I used paste all of 22 years with except8ion of the last 9 months, and I have switched back to the paste. To each his own.

The injectable dose is 1cc for every 100 lbs. So a 50 lb gets 1/2cc, a 25 lb dog gets 1/4cc or .25, etc.

At what age do you suggest starting a dog on ivomec? I worm my dogs 1 time a month now for all the other worms. I have used ivomec before but quit using it because I had to many un ansered questions. After reading this I think they have all been answered but this one. Can anyone please help?

You can began giving it at the same age that you can begin giving heartguard, which around here vets give it @ 6 weeks of age. I am no vet, but that is when I begin, and have had no problems, and never a heartworm infestation. Well, let me rephrase that, the only heartworms I have had to deal with was a dog that was 4 years old when I got her, and she had the heartworms when she came to me. Other than that, never had a problem.

How much would you give the 6 week old puppies? I will be using the injectable kind.
