  5. Technically an American Staffordshire Terrier is a subset of American Pit Bull Terriers that were bred for a particular look. The AKC didn't want the "pit bull" registered in its club so the UKC and ABDA were created for them. Eventually the AKC saw the popularity of the breed and accepted them but under a different name. Colby's Primo was the dog used in the AKC standard.

Some people will say the AmStaffs are APBTs. Others will say that the selective breeding of the AmStaff has taken away it's gameness therefore it's not an APBT but rather two seperate breeds.

  6. Is it true the APBT's growth is way larger than the Amstaff? (just wondering)

  7. amstaffs are the show dogs so they get bigger

  8. Most of the AmStaffs I see are around 50-60 lbs. They rarely grow larger than that since most breeders try to stick with the AKC conformance standard and keep the height/weight proportional. APBTs on the other hand range from 30 lbs to over 100 lbs. The 100 lb APBTs I've seen look more like American Bulldogs.
