FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Police in Fort Pierce said a man intentionally shot his roommate's pit bull in the face with a BB gun after the dog chewed his sneakers.

    Fort Pierce PD

Fort Pierce police said they were called to 210 North 18th Street on Sunday after the dog's owner found a cut about an inch away from the dog's eye. The man told police that the dog had recently chewed his roommate, Jason Bennett's, sneakers and he believed Bennett had shot the dog on purpose.

Bennett told police he had been shooting at birds and had shot the dog accidentally, according to police. After inspecting the dog, police determined that Bennett had shot the dog intentionally because of the point of entry the BB had made on the dog's face.

Bennett was taken to St. Lucie County jail where he was held for intentionally causing pain and suffering to an animal.
