Is one more important than the other? If so, which & why? Thx for your opinion

Both are very important but the bitch is more important she's the one that cares for the pups and if she ain't letting them nurse you aint gonna have no pups if she eats them again no pups

Its all about starting with a good brood bitch. You can breed to someone elses stud but try to borrow their bitch and lemme know how that goes. The female is the hard part.

lol, but true... So why do you think yards/bloodlines, are built mostly on the stud and not the bitch that produced, said stud?

Bc u can breed a male 100 times so he can produce more high quality dogs based on quantity. A female can only be bred when she is in heat, so generally one litter a year. Basically a male can have more litters in a year than a female can have in her entire life combined

That completely depends on you. There is a lot more aspects to consider than any of these replies so far (including mine) have covered or will cover. Just keep it simple, and start with animals you enjoy.

This is not always the case...some breed more to the bitches, and some more to the males. Just depends on what the man behind the yard does. There are so many ways to breed it's not even funny.

    Fuck numbers, I want percentages.

Any smart man would want percentages but that's not the way the ranking system for production works and a dog like mayday who produces multiple gr chs and champions is gonna have his own bloodline eventhough a bitch who had 2 litters and 2 champions might have better percentages. Its easier to run find good mayday dogs bc their are more to go through and more people see them. Jus how it is, the most popular aren't always the best

There no longer is that "ranking system fir production" you speak about these days. Even back when it was implemented it was an extremely flawed way to gauge the production ability of dogs.
Is it easier to find good mayday dogs because there are more to go through or does that make it more difficult to find good mayday dogs because of all the shit you have to sift through to get the good ones? Just because there are more of this blood or that blood out there doesn't mean there are more good ones out there.

"yards/bloodlines, are built mostly on the stud and not the bitch that produced" not in the real world. "successful" yards usually have several different family & sub family. you can't "build" anything around one dog in less you plan on breeding to the same dog. normally a yard is based on a breeding formula of a individual per se carver/ boudreaux , hinzl/corvino etc. the popularity of M/F is only because mostly M get matched so there's more to read about.

oh ben i see you've changed some of your thinking . but in the real world both go .

agreed Ben may point goes back to the if you throw enough shit something will stick thing. there will be plenty of males off the line to choose from, nothing against mayday just a dog who was bred a lot.

They are both equally important. It is just most make exceptions when it comes to bitches. They will bred less than stellar bitches. A good female will separate your stock from the middle of the pack. Hold both sexes to the same standard and you will be alright. Take a shortcut on either you will waste time and feed.

In my opinion the bitch is the more important, especially in the development stage of your program. The reason there are so many junk mayday , or any other bloodline based on a male is the number of junk bitches said male was bred to. With a class bitch in your hand you have access to any male any where in the world. In a few breedings you could have a formidable yard without ever using your own stud. The chances of taking a solid gyp to a poor quality male are less than taking a good male to a lesser quality bitch.

Exactly my point starlion, well said

why does one have to be less quality than the other?

  20. sadieblues

I would say both are of equal importance especially if you are not trying to go outside your yard to breed your stellar bitch to other males. I think with any strong foundation a good male and a good bitch is very important and you can't possibly sacrifice one for the other if you are breeding quality dogs to begin with you don't need to go any further than your own backyard.
