swivel bolt direction

    do you guys have a preference for which way the swivel bolt is facing? I've seen some people have the bolt facing away from the collar while in CaliJacks book as the bolt facing the collar.

    Is one way better than the other in your experience?

    I've done both just by share chance and didn't think about it, but now that I have had to replace some swivels, I wondered if there was a preference from other chain and axle users.

    The bolt should always be facing down or away from the collar. If not when the swivel starts to wear the connecting link can get wedged next to the bolt. I have seen this happen on several occasions.
