Anyway since this is an USA site I thought I'd give this a listen (for the first time)to see what it had to offer. I was glad as it's a good song about emigration and the sentiment that entails.

Refers to the Highland Clearances and the Scots migrants forced to leave the old country for America and Nova Scotia, pretty much same as Ireland during the famine.

Bathgate no more, Linwood no more, Methil no more, Irvine no more.. Refers to Thatcher's decimation of Mining, steel and other Scottish industrial communities during the 1980's.. I think they're brilliant mate!
