How Do You Guys Feel About This?

Curious here, after just reading something. The particular city/state was not mentioned, yet, it has come to my attention, that this is not uncommon.

How would you guys feel if, say, your dog, or dogs were out, on your property, a person enters onto your property, uninvited, unannounced, and one of them, jumped on said person, knocked them down and they got hurt? Or say, hyperthetically speaking, one of them even tried to bite the person that was on your property, (no wounds were inflicted, no puncture marks were even made)and they became SO traumatized by the situation, that they filed a complaint and they won, and you had to pay "X" amount of dollars?
Do you think it's fair to be fined, found guilty or held responsible if someone comes on your property and for whatever reason, your animals have "harmed" them in any way?

just curious about the different pov's here...[IMG]

[NO I dont, but that is the american way nowadays. A thief can fall in your backyard, break his leg and sue you for damages!

My front yard is gated with a doorbell on the outside of the gate w/ warning beware of dogs sign and a sign that says guard dog on duty sign on the outside of the gateright next to the doorbell. So say someone decided after they heard my GSD barking and going nuts to come in on my property and they won a case I would be PISSED!!!!! Especially if they come unannounced I just don't think it's right for someone to sue if they are on your property and the owner is expecting you.

It is funny you should mention this. A lady where I work asked me if I knew anyone who wanted a Austrailian Cattle dog. I said why? She said a man she did not know, came into her fenced back yard where her grandbaby was playing. She had the appropriate signs dislayed too. He approached the baby and the dog nipped him on the leg. She said it was just a scratch. More like a pinch than a bite. He took her to court. She said most of the cases there were dog bites. She had to pay the man $1000.00, do 30 days community service and get rid of the dog.

We advised she get a lawyer and fight it. She has consulted one and is going to see what she can do. She also said there is a lot of theft in her neighborhood. The man has already collected 2 payments from her insurance co. Oh yeah, the first thing the judge asked was what kind of dog it was. She says the judge ordered a lot of dogs put to sleep that day. We live in Augusta Georgia. A couple of months ago, a doctor was driving dui the wrong way down a road, hit a 17 year old boy head on killing him instantly. He only got 2 years probation, no fine, no nothing. How F'd up is that?

I live in the Vinings, here in GA, and I read the laws are dogs before even getting here. My understanding is if someone comes onto your property or attempts/suceeds into breaking into your house and your dog bites the burglar, your dog is safe.

Suki, I would be fighting like hell if someone broke into my place, and one or all of my dogs attacked the burglar, and then he tries to get money from me???? I don't think so. Wouldn't happen... I would go to jail or let it sit on my credit, would not happen. Person broke the law when he came onto my property, especially if I didn't know him, and get away with that.... No, maam, wouldn't tolerate it... What do you know, Suki? Are you allowed to spill it?

I watch my dogs like a hawk when they are outside, even my old toothless sheltie, I just don't want any trouble.

I would just kill them and toss them into the creek. I don't let tresspassers off my land. I will not tollerate bull shit on my land. I don't care if it is a cop or my mother. They better tote the line. I don't feel that if some one gets bit in a the owners yard that they have any rights at all to sue or complain. They should not have tresspassed. If they get bit or hurt that is their own fault not mine. just shoot them in the head for good measure. Buzzards are endangered animals and need all the food they can get.

I got a warning sign out front that says beware of sheep, and the owner don't worry about the dogs.

the bs, that happened to me i wouldn't lose my case, they got knocked by my dog they should be happy cause if i was there i would have done worse than what the midia "pit bull" can do. there is a law that no one univited can come to ur proberty. and if u feel it is a treat to u or your family is in dangered. In my eyes every one is a treat.

    edit this in 2

if im remember right, its one of the bills of right to

You need to take a break from the moonshine there Attila.
A co-worker of mine told me that he had a male pit bull (apparently it was one of those 70+ pound ones). Anyway he had a chain link fence and a beware of dog sign, next to his gate, not on it.
Some gas worker had an appointment at his house, showed up early and contrary to being told to wait for the owner, went through that gate and then through another gate and got bitten by his dog. My co-worker was sued and ended up paying $25,000 for the injured gas worker. This was told to me at work, I have no idea if the story is true or not...supposedly happened in California.

This story makes lead injection very appealing and tempting..lol.

I don't know what the law is there, but here, they have to be threatening your life with a weapon inside the house (talking about property). It could be a little different but not much. I think if someone uninvited comes in your house then that should be good enough cause for you to do what ya have to. jmo

LMFAO!!!!! I am SOOOOOOO glad I wasn't in the process of swallowing anything, when I read this post!!![IMG]!!!!!

anyhow, here is a partial for what I was referring to:

PET OWNERS LISTEN UP - THERE COULD BE SOME
    CHANGES COMING TO YOUR
    BACKYARD.
TODAY, THE CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSED CHANGING THE
    RULES ABOUT
    AGGRESSIVE
    ANIMALS.
ONE PROPOSAL...PUNISHMENT FOR THE OWNERS IF
    SOMETHING HAPPENS ON
    THEIR
    PROPERTY.
EYEWITNESS NEWS FIVE'S 'JOHN FLICK' HAS THE
    DETAILS.

doesn't say where, just says that. It's along with other bits and pieces of articles in a link on the BSL Yahoo board. I just happened to read it, and it made me wonder how people might feel. Personally, I think [IMG]....

but was wondering what the general consensus was...

Yes lead is cheaper and an extry knife or baseball bat does the weapon deal just perfectly.

D,dizzle here if someone comes on my farm they don't even have to pose a threat to me. If I feel they are attempting to steal my livestock or any other animal I can hang them or shoot them dead. If they try to break into my house all I have to do is make sure they had a way to escape but chose not to. Armed or not. I just shoot. My friends call first. I have had half a dozen folks from this site at my house now and they can tell you I am a great host to those I invite but I will also be the total opposite to those I don't invite. Shot gun shells I can get for $4.85 a box. A shit gun I can get on the street for about $25. You do the math. law suites cost way more than $30 so I choose to pull the trigger and be done with it. A peice of rebar is a weapon. Get some at Lowes next time you're there. never be a victom nor let your dog be the villian. Lead inject call the cops crying your eyes out like you're tramatized and be done with the bull shit.
