every yard needs a base IMO...making outs brings something to the table but you have to remember how you got where you are at. as OG posted "not staying with the family". a lot of folks need to realize they aren't going to reinvent the wheel as all crosses have been made and the ones that worked have gone on to become a line/strain of dogs. first thing that comes to mind is KISS .. keep it simple stupid. ofcouse there is the exception "throw enough shit against the wall and something will stick"

BTW...WTF does the ped have to do with the topic? lol other than being j/rb/r which has been a proven formula for years...being consistant? do you own the animal?

This is one of my favorite topics. It hasn't always been, but it is stuck in my head now. TDK has preached it for years on this forum and others. Now it is slowly sinking in. Consistency or lack of has nothing to do with proven formulas or staying within a family. Even if you follow the formula or breed within a family you still may end up with low quality. You can get consistent results if you concentrate on breeding traits (another TDK preaching). Pick your core set of traits you require in your dogs and don't compromise them and your results will improve. Where I think most people fall short is that they compromise and breed dogs that are lacking some traits in the hopes that a specific trait that dog has will improve the current stock. What happens instead is some of the the traits of the current stock are lost in the mix. An example would be I have dogs with good air, smarts and speed and I breed to a slow dog who can shut it in hopes of adding mouth to my mutts. Now I sit back and wait for my superdogs to grow up. When the time comes all I have is an inconsistent bunch of trash. Some are smart and can bite good, but they are slow as mud. Others are fast and can bite, but are dumber than a box of rocks and so on and so on. If luck is on your side you may get one or more with all the tools or even the whole litter will turn out, but we are talking about consistency not luck.

very good post.. I was hoping this thread would be a positive with folks posting as you have. Funny you used TDK as an example..over the years I think he has made 4 outs in his original strain of mutts. He has a very consistant line of animals which can be crossed with severals other lines. This was a conversation I recently had. Key is not to be blind.

The pedigree is suppose to be an example of a consistently bred family that consistently throws BULLDOGS that are proven & show that they consistently throw WINNERS.

CONSISTENTLY PUT BULLDOGS ON THE GROUND AS WE STAYED WITH THE RECIPE THAT WAS CREATED BEFORE US.

j/rb/various eli strains and j/rascal have a proved to be a recipe for bulldogs for many, many years. it crosses well with just about any line and I would say is the most popular base for many yards.
