Building a new (outdoor) kennel and would like some ideas. I am looking for suggestions on outdoor set-ups including whelping areas. Let me know what has worked good for you.

The city of FW is recomending kennel set ups as a means to contain your animals now. They used the yellow lab in that portable outside kennel enclosure as a example to present to the city council.

My advice to anyone that is considering or forced to find another means of confinement for thier animals out side of tethering. Do not not trust these kennels alone, these kennels need to be renforced....

Also check your city codes to make sure there are no restrictions before putting up a kennel.

I got my first magnum kennel from Tractor Supply for about $550, that was in '03. It's still here, got a little rust here and there, but it does it's job damn well! My suggestion, however, don't leave it on dirt. Either make a concrete slab, use cinder blocks/patio blocks or build you a short deck with 2x4's. You can even lay some bull panel across the bottom of the pen and cover it with pea-gravel or rubber matting. Make sure you put a top on it, I suggest using aluminum pans (placed directly on top/no spaces between kennel and roof) angled for drainage.I personally will not use another kennel, especially anything in chain link. Chain link is a joke and I have seen 3 or 4 month old bulldog pups eat right through it. If you want to build your own, you can use some of that "non-climb" fence with the same ideas as the magnum kennel. I have seen short kennels made out of bull panel, with 2x4 floors and plywood tops. Anything is feasible. Just make sure it will contain your dog no matter what!!!

You should check out your local home improvment store here we have Menards and they sell the same panels for less than a couple of the sites I glance at and you would probably save some on shipping also.

    Outside kennel?

Use Horse panel. It has the 2" X 4" pattern in 6 guage. The hog panels have a 6"X6" pattern. They come in 60"X16' pieces. And like others said, concrete floor, and solid roof. If you want a nice design, pm me and let me know how many dogs, and I can draw it up for you.
