WITH A BANJO ON MY KNEE

In April of 1989, Coy's BETTY JO, a 2x winning daughter of MISS KIM rom, had a litter of puppies that would change the level of what Carver dogs would be judged by. The sire of this litter was the lesser-known McCool's SACK, who was by McCool's BULLY, and out of a McCool's Vanna (A littermate sister to BETTY JO 2xw). This litter included Coy's GR CH BANJO rom, Coy's GR. CH. BB RED, L.G.'s BOY, and Bullard's BOUNCER 3xw. All of these dogs were tough dogs, but they were even better as producers!

This story could easily be about any one of these dogs, but old Lockdown decided that it was better to shed light on one of them that was a great dog, a great producer, and a great part of bulldog history...GR. CH BANJO rom! There will be some that will get upset, because this story will be one of the realest stories that I ever wrote, and I will not let those receive credit that they did not deserve, but I will make it a point to give proper respect to those that made him famous. If I omitted mention to someone, it was probably done on purpose, but to those that were omitted by accident, I truly apologize.

GR. CH. BANJO rom made his championship during a time when it was very hard for a bulldog to attain that title, and even though I am a fan of mentioning the accomplishments of a titled dog, I'll keep it short by saying that he defeated champions, multiple winners, and reputable dog men. BANJO made champion by the age of three, and GR CH by the age of four! He was a shoe in for the SDJ Dog of the Year title, but was defeated by his littermate sister!

Now comes the hard part! Where do we start when it comes to his accomplishments in the brood pens? Do we start with CHOO-CHOO 2xw (A very good bitch by BANJO, and Coy's MONA), the dam of CH. COACHISE? Should I start with CIGAR 1xw, or his littermate sister, GO-GO GIRL rom? We could start with J. Roche's CH. G-STR1NG, or her brother CH. FANCY, or kick it all off with the story of CH. BANJI! Are you starting to see the magnitude of this dog as a producer?

There were dogs being used all over the U.S. that were sired by this dog, and a number of them made a name for themselves. Initially, BANJO was bred to bitches of similar breeding and the results were tremendous! I was able to see Coy's LITTLE RED FFRETRUCK 1xw, a littermate to Coy's ROLLING RED 1xw, and he was simply amazing. He took a second to warm up, but when he did, it was a blow out!

GR. CH. BANJO rom was bred to M.A.D's GEORGIA, and they produced two dogs that were pretty notable in their own rights! The more well known of the two, DSK's LOCKDOWN RUDY, won over two champions before taking the count to the highly regarded, CH. RETARD. His littermate brother, LITTLE J, lost in his only outing, but did so gamely!

I hated to not include dogs such as, Outman Rick's CH. BANNY GIRL, or Shady Day's CH. JUGHEAD, Boot Camp Click's WHIPPET Ixw, or Cypress Bottom Kennel's CH. MO. These are lesser-known athletes that were all sired, by GR. CH. BANJO, but at the time of this writing, I simply didn't have the pictures and information to mention them in the light that they so richly deserved. I hope you've enjoyed this article!
