Hybrid vigor in dogs: fact or fiction

for those who know the story about the famous Stormer dog.
Claimed he didnt produce because of the Hybrid Vigor effect..
this being that while breeding 2 previously inbred or pure dogs together such as EBT x SBT or APBT x SBT and so forth you get offspring that are supior to both parents but lack the same producing ability...well......

i thought a high level of heterosis occurred when two genetically very different animals are bred together,obviously the extreme would be 2 different species but inbred animals are genetically evolving at a higher rate so crossing two inbred dogs of different unrelated strains is the best way to get a high level of heterosis.

dont quote me on any of that lol it'd be interesting to hear someone knowledgeable speak on the subject.
