What does this mean to you. Give your thoughts and reasoning.

In the simplest terms, inbreeding is done to capture and maintain certain qualities. The more inbreeding, the more uniform they become in behavior and appearance. Unrestrained inbreeding is punished with mental and physical defects because inbreeding doubles the good qualities but triples any mistakes. So sometimes fresh blood from another family is needed to keep the dogs healthy and fit.

Not so much about the " inbreeding " more about the fool and the old man part.

People go crazy when they do inbreeding themselves. I myself am a pretty sensible old man,LOL.

Imo the fool is the youth in us. Always in a rush very emotional no understanding of how to cut ties. The old man has experience more rational and a shovel and time to waste.
The inbreeding not to preserve but to find the faults in order to cull them out.

There's a difference between inbreeding and line breeding. Line breed 4 gens, the outcross was my philosophy when I wore a younger man's clothes ;-)

I use inbreeding, line breeding and outcrossing as do most breeders that breed a family. It's knowing when to use which method that makes all the difference in the world. It's an art, it's a science and it's many times, just a roll of the dice no matter what method you use. Hell, my favorite breeding practice is a half bro/sis. It's evident in most any one of my dogs. Shit my whole line revolves around 2 full sisters and their half brother.

Lol I then thru his half brother into my mix. All of those 4 offspring are worth a bet.

I always lead off with 'I am not a breeder' but I do agree on the a half brother/half sister approach.

Again, not a breeder and not into genetics but the pups from this that possess your selected family traits also throw those family traits, even with the outs. What makes them special is then the guy who runs the outs used in the half bro/half sis can use that dog across his dogs as the solid out for his dogs as well.

Since I don't know anything about the subject I can say things that don't make any sense.......Half brother-half sister is like outcrossing and inbreeding in the same litter. Selection from there makes is a solid path going forward.

I have even heard it was called 'a safer form of inbreeding'.

Coefficient wise that statement is pretty on point. I use this chart for reference from time to time.

Fortunately for canines they tolerate it a lot better genetically than we humans do. Lol

As many dogs as Bert Sorrells produced he never inbred and was against it. It's not everyone cup of tea but give it hell if it's yours .

Bert's dogs at the same weight would always look bigger.
