How do you help a sick weak dog to recover. I give him some extra meat. Any tips would be great.

There are products you can buy (Nutri-cal, Lickables) that are in a tube like toothpaste is. It is a flavored paste that contains all the nutrients a dog requires and also helps stimulate their appetite. Use this as well as regular feed as a supplement. You can also use Pedialyte (drug store) an electrolyte replacement fluid for children. As with any illness, time, rest, and proper nutrition are a solid beginning.

the vet told me that gatorade is also good if the dog is dehydrated. It puts the electrolytes back in the dogs system.

Yes..you must first get the dog to eat a little! Pedialyte and a good vitamin/mineral supplement to help boost his energy and appitite!(Iron and B-12 supplements will help with this)

Use Pedialyte, not Gatoraid. Gatoraid has a higher sugar content and can cause diarrhea. Not the best thing to happen with a dog recovering from surgery. Its a little more money but worth every penny.

Pedialyte is very good for dehydration after surgery. The body needs alot of sleep to recouperate. Give it sometime.
